Surviving the Wasteland
Extinction is split between a central high-tech Sanctuary (safe zone) and a massive, dangerous outer ring called the Wasteland.
- The Sanctuary City The best place to build your main base. It contains city terminals (used for crafting Enforcers, Scouts, and Element), water sources, and relatively weak wildlife (mostly Enforcers and Defense Units).
- The Corrupted Wasteland Outside the city, you will slowly starve if you do not have adequate armor or hazard gear due to the heat and atmospheric conditions. It is populated by Corrupted Dinosaurs.
- Corrupted Dinosaurs These creatures share a hive mind. If you attack one, all nearby corrupted creatures will swarm you. They are untameable and can damage ALL structure types, including Tek. Do not build unprotected bases in the Wasteland.
OSDs & Element Veins
Instead of deep sea loot crates or standard beacons, Extinction features a unique PvE horde-defense minigame.
Orbital Supply Drops (OSDs)
OSDs fall from the sky into the Wasteland. Activating one triggers a shield and spawns waves of corrupted dinosaurs trying to destroy the drop.
- Difficulty Tiers: Blue (Easy), Yellow (Medium), Red (Hard), Purple (Legendary).
- Strategy: For Red and Purple OSDs, you need highly mutated Giganotosaurus or Carcharodontosaurus. The drops are the primary way to get high-tier blueprints and Tek saddles.
Element Veins
Similar to OSDs, but instead of blueprints, successfully defending the central Element node allows you to harvest massive quantities of raw Element, Element Shards, and Element Dust. Bring a Mantis with a good Pickaxe for maximum harvest yield.
Taming the Titans
Extinction introduces the Titans: mini-bosses that spawn in the open world. You can kill them for loot, or tame them to use against the King Titan.
The King Titan (Finale)
The ultimate boss of ARK. The King Titan is the size of a skyscraper and cannot be defeated by normal dinosaurs. It is located at the terminal in the Forbidden Zone (deepest part of the Wasteland).
- The Setup: You absolutely must tame the Forest, Ice, and Desert Titans and bring them to the fight. Without them, your dinosaur army will be wiped instantly.
- The Mega-Mek: For the Alpha King Titan, you must craft the Mega-Mek by combining 4 standard Meks using a M.O.M.I. module. The Mega-Mek can only be deployed in the King Titan arena and will self-destruct shortly after.
- The Fight: Pilot the Mega-Mek and engage the King Titan in melee combat while your three tamed Titans and a massive horde of Gigas support you. Focus on avoiding its meteor strikes and devastating fist slams.
Defeating the Alpha King Titan cleanses the Earth of corruption, rolling the final cinematic of the main ARK storyline and granting the Homo Deus ascension.
