Desert Survival Tactics

Scorched Earth introduces extreme weather mechanics: Superheat, Sandstorms, and Electrical Storms. Preparing for these is your top priority.

Essential Survival Gear

• Adobe Structures Do NOT build out of Wood, Stone, or Metal unless you want an oven. Only Adobe structures provide high hyperthermal insulation (protection from heat).
• Desert Cloth Armor Crafted from Hide, Fiber, and Silk. Provides the best heat resistance. You can gather Silk by harvesting the purple and white flowers scattered around the map.
• Morellatops The desert camel. Can store large amounts of water in its humps by drinking from water veins or eating cactus. Essential for early-game exploration.

Stealing Wyvern Eggs

Wyverns (Fire, Lightning, and Poison) cannot be tamed normally. You must venture into the Wyvern Trench (The World Scar), steal a fertilized egg, and raise the baby using Wyvern Milk.

Hunting Deathworms

Deathworms are apex predators that burrow beneath the desert dunes on the outer edge of the map. You must hunt them to obtain Deathworm Horns, which are required for taming Mantis and summoning the Manticore.

Strategy: Ride a powerful Megatherium or a group of Rexes in third-person view along the sand dunes. Look for large dust trails moving quickly towards you under the sand. Stop moving, let the worm surface, and burst it down before it can deal significant damage. Bring plenty of healing items or a Daedon.

The Manticore Boss

The final boss of Scorched Earth. The Manticore is a flying chimera that deals immense torpor damage, meaning it can knock your dinosaurs out mid-fight, leaving them defenseless.

• Artifacts Required: Gatekeeper, Crag, Destroyer.
• Tributes: 10x Fire Talon, 10x Lightning Talon, 10x Poison Talon, 10x Deathworm Horn.
• Army Composition: Bring 19 highly mutated Rexes or Wyverns (Lightning Wyverns are preferred by many because they can engage the Manticore in the air). Bring 1 Yutyrannus for courage buffs.
• Crucial Tip: Feed your ground tames Stimulants before the fight and monitor their torpor carefully. If they fall asleep, they are dead.

Bob's Tall Tales: The Frontier (DLC)

If you own the premium Bob's Tall Tales expansion, Scorched Earth features exclusive Frontier-themed mechanics that drastically change how you build and traverse the desert.

• 🚂 The Train System: You can lay down tracks across the entire desert and build massive mobile train bases. Trains are incredibly useful for hauling heavy resources (like metal and sulfur) safely across the map without needing slow caravans of Paraceratheriums.
• 🦕 The Oasisaur (Fantastic Tame): A massive floating island creature. You can build a base on its back, and its unique pool of water can resurrect dead tames if you have their dermis/implant. It acts as the ultimate safe haven in the sky.
• ⛏️ Treasure Hunting: Use the new Shovel tool to dig up buried treasure maps and unearth high-tier loot scattered across the dunes.

Loot Crates & Ruins

Desert Loot Crates (Red Drops)

Similar to the Deep Sea crates on The Island, Scorched Earth features high-tier red crates hidden in the deep desert dunes. Best coordinates:

• Northwest Dunes: 15.0, 15.0
• Southwest Dunes: 85.0, 15.0
• Southeast Dunes: 85.0, 85.0

Cave Drops (Blue/Yellow/Red)

The three artifact caves (Gatekeeper, Crag, Destroyer) are the best consistent farm for blueprints like Mantis Saddles, Flamethrowers, and Chainsaws. The Destroyer Cave (Ruins of Nosti at 78.5, 75.6) has the highest concentration of red drops.
