Map Overview
Ragnarok is a massive, diverse map that combines elements from The Island and Scorched Earth. It spans 144 square kilometers, offering vast oceans, deep trenches, and towering mountains.
Key Locations
- The Highlands (Northeast) A beautiful, rolling grassy landscape. Excellent for finding Ovis (Sheep) for mutton, Equus (Horses), and Allosaurus packs. Beware of the occasional Giganotosaurus spawn.
- The Volcano & Wyvern Trench An active volcanic region containing the main Wyvern Trench. You can find Fire, Lightning, and Poison Wyvern eggs here. Extremely dangerous. Tip for stealing eggs: Use a high-stamina Pteranodon or a Griffin's dive-bomb mechanic to outrun angry wyverns, or lead them into a pre-built behemoth gate trap.
- Murder Snow (Southwest) An extremely cold biome where standard fur armor might not be enough. Home to Ice Wyverns, Direwolves, and Yutyrannus. Bring high-quality fur and Fria Curry.
Best Base Locations
Whether you're playing PvP or PvE, Ragnarok offers some of the most iconic and defensible base spots in the game.
Viking Bay (PvE / Early Game)
Coordinates: 15.0° Lat, 25.0° Lon
A beautiful bay featuring a massive skeletal ribcage, a sunken shipwreck containing Eurypterids (for Silica Pearls), and plenty of flat building space. It's safe, central, and has easy water access.
The Castle / Swamp Ruin (PvP)
Coordinates: 22.0° Lat, 40.0° Lon
A massive, pre-built ruined castle overlooking the swamp. It has only one ground entrance via a stone bridge, making it extremely defensible. Note: The interior spawns thousands of bats (Onycs) and spiders, which you must clear out before building.
Green Obelisk Plateau (Alpha PvE)
Coordinates: 55.0° Lat, 70.0° Lon
A massive, perfectly flat plateau directly under the Green Obelisk. Ideal for colossal mega-bases, massive breeding pens, and direct access to the boss terminal.
Resource Hotspots
| Resource | Coordinates | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Metal & Obsidian | 30.0° Lat, 35.0° Lon | The volcanic shelf edge. Massive clusters of rich metal nodes and obsidian. Bring an Ankylo and an Argentavis. |
| Crystal & Salt | 25.0° Lat, 75.0° Lon | The massive canyon pillars in the northeast are covered in crystal and raw salt nodes. |
| Black Pearls & Silica | 15.0° Lat, 25.0° Lon | Inside the sunken Viking ship in Viking Bay. Farm the Eurypterids (sea scorpions), but beware of their torpor attacks. |
| Polymer (Organic) | 35.0° Lat, 35.0° Lon | Farm the Mantis swarms in the volcanic area using a Wyvern or a high-level carnivore. |
Unique Creatures
Ragnarok introduces a few highly sought-after creatures that dramatically change traversing the map.
Griffin
A majestic half-lion, half-eagle flyer. It cannot be bred, but it is one of the fastest mounts in the game thanks to its dive-bomb mechanic.
- Location: Canyons, far Northeast, and scattered around the redwoods.
- Taming: Knockout tame. Requires a large trap (dinosaur gateways) because it is highly aggressive. Prefers Allosaurus Kibble or Raw Mutton.
- Utility: Incredible mobility, allows weapon usage from the saddle, and deals massive AoE damage when dive-bombing the ground.
Ice Wyvern
A variant of the standard Wyvern that breathes a slowing frost breath.
- Location: The Murder Snow biome. They do not spawn in the main volcano trench.
- Taming: Steal eggs from the scattered nests in the snow biome and hatch them. Raise babies with Wyvern Milk.
- Utility: The frost breath heavily drains stamina and slows targets, making it excellent for PvP and crowd control.
Dungeons & Puzzles
Ragnarok is famous for its intricate, Zelda-style dungeons that require puzzle-solving, parkour, and sacrifices, rather than just brute-forcing with a high-level tame.
1. Spirit Direbear Labyrinth (Life's Labyrinth)
Located in the desert. You must navigate a complex maze, dodge dart traps, survive a jumping puzzle over instant-death pits, and sacrifice an allied player (or dodo) on an altar to unlock the final artifact chamber.
2. Ice Worm Queen Dungeon
Located in the snow biome. A freezing cave filled with Deathworms adapted to the ice. You must traverse the tunnels on foot (using cryopods is highly restricted) and fight the massive Ice Worm Queen boss at the end to claim the Artifact of the Pack.
Ragnarok Boss Arena
The Ragnarok Arena is a dual-boss fight where you must face the Dragon and the Manticore simultaneously in a massive colosseum.
- The Strategy: The Dragon lands first and takes significantly more damage than the Island variant, but its fire breath is just as deadly. Focus the Dragon down immediately using a swarm of mutated Therizinosaurs. Once the Dragon is dead, pull out your shotguns to hit the Manticore while it flies, and let your Theris swarm it when it lands.
- Required Army: 18x Therizinosaurs (with Sweet Veggie Cakes), 1x Yutyrannus, 1x Daedon.
- Rewards: Tek Replicator, Tek Transmitter, Tek Shield, and massive amounts of Element.
