1. How Dyes Work
Baldur's Gate 3 allows you to customize the color of your Armor, Gloves, Boots, Helmets, and Camp Clothing. Here is everything you need to know about the system:
- Consumable Items: Dyes are single-use items. Once you combine a dye with an item, the dye is destroyed. (Tip: Save your game before testing a dye to make sure you like it!).
- How to Apply: Right-click on a Dye in your inventory and select "Combine". Drag your armor piece into the empty slot and press Combine.
- Dye Remover: If you hate the result, you can buy "Dye Remover" from almost any general merchant. Using it on an item restores its original default colors.
- Material Matters: The same dye will look completely different on plate armor than it does on cloth robes. For example, "Black and Azure" makes metal look silver and cloth look dark blue.
2. Rare & Unique Dyes
Most standard dyes are found early on, but the best color combinations belong to the "Very Rare" category.
Sinful Red on Bone White
Turns metal a pristine white/silver and cloaks/robes a deep, saturated blood red. Highly sought after for Paladins and Clerics.
Drake General Dye
A luxurious combination of deep crimson, gold trim, and black leather. Found exclusively in Act 3 at Facemaker's Boutique.
Boreal Blue Dye
Creates a stark icy blue metallic sheen mixed with dark undertones. Perfect for Wizards and Rangers.
Jet and Pink Rose Dye
Despite the name, this is the closest you can get to a "Pure Black" aesthetic. It turns metal into dark obsidian.
Black and Furnace Red Dye
A highly aggressive and demonic color scheme. Turns cloth jet black and metal into a dark, fiery red. Ideal for Warlocks and Dark Urge characters.
Harlequin Black and White
Creates a stark, high-contrast look that splits your armor into pure black and stark white segments. Very rare drop from Act 3 vendors.
