Silent Hill 2 has a very small cast and no filler in it. Everyone James meets is carrying something of their own, and the game trusts you to notice without being told. This page stays out of the ending; the story explainer handles that.
Who you will meet
✉️ James Sunderland
Came because a letter said to. He is not a soldier, a detective or a survivor — he is a man who is very bad at this, and the game never lets him become good at it.
🌹 Maria
Looks like Mary and behaves like nobody Mary ever was. She attaches herself to James early, and how you treat her is one of the things the game is quietly counting.
🔪 Angela Orosco
Met in the cemetery, looking for a mother. Her Silent Hill is not the one James is walking through, which is the clearest signal the game gives about what the town is doing.
🔫 Eddie Dombrowski
Found beside something he says he did not do. He gets worse every time you meet him, and he is the only person in the game who seems to be enjoying himself.
🎀 Laura
Eight years old, unafraid, and the only person in Silent Hill who sees nothing wrong with the place. She knew Mary, and she is not fond of James.
Why Laura sees no monsters
It is the quietest piece of writing in the game and the one that explains the rest of it. The town does not show you what is there — it shows you what you brought. Laura brought nothing.
Reading the conversations
- Nobody says what they mean, and the game never confirms anything twice. If a line feels evasive, it is.
- James narrates less than you expect. Most of what you learn comes from what other people assume about him.
- The notes and photographs are part of the cast. Read them when you find them — several stop being available later.
