Several of the combinations in Silent Hill 2 are generated for your save rather than written into the game. A guide that hands you a four-digit code is guessing, so this page teaches the method instead.
Read this before looking anything up
If a walkthrough gives you a flat number for a locked box, check whether it matches what your own note says. When it does not, the puzzle was rolled for your playthrough and the clue in your hands is the only correct source.
How to work them
- Every combination has its clue somewhere you have already been. The map remembers the rooms; walk them again before searching a wiki.
- Riddles are rewritten by puzzle difficulty, so a solution written for Hard will not match your Standard run word for word.
- Examined notes stay in the inventory. Nothing is ever lost by reading a clue twice.
