This page spoils the entire game, including the ending. Silent Hill 2 is worth meeting cold, and nothing here will help you finish it — it is for afterwards, when you want to know whether you read it right.
Read this after you have finished
The letter
- Mary died three years before the game starts. James knows this, and the game lets you believe he does not.
- The letter is the only thing James is certain of, and it is the first thing the town takes back — the envelope empties as the game goes on.
- He did not come to Silent Hill because he was called. He came because it is where they were happy, and because of what he did at the end of her illness.
The people the town brought
The endings, and what each one says
Why the town looks like that
- The fog and the rust are not weather. Each person gets the Silent Hill their own head furnishes, which is why Angela sees flames where James sees a corridor.
- The monsters are shaped like the thing James cannot say out loud, and the game is content to let you work out what that is on your own.
- Nothing in the town judges him. It only keeps handing him the evidence until he does it himself.
