"Black Cloud, Red Fire." Ends with Black Bear Guai, the King of Black Wind Mountain.
Setting: Chapter 1
What to do here
- Learn the ropes: staff combos, Focus and the Immobilize spell you earn here.
- Hunt the Wandering Wight and Guangzhi for early materials and a transformation.
- Boss: Black Bear Guai — dodge his charging slams, Immobilize, then punish with charged Heavies.

How much of this chapter is optional
Which leaves 4 optional. That ratio is the shape of the whole game, and it is the one thing every source agrees on: most of what you can fight, you do not have to. The game-wide totals are another matter — published counts run from 88 to over a hundred depending on whether the guide counts secret bosses, repeat fights and summons — so there is no honest number to put here. The proportion holds anyway, so two out of every three are things you have to go looking for.
And one of the four is hidden behind a chapter-wide errand: ring the three bells scattered across Black Wind Mountain and Elder Jinchi becomes fightable. If you are going to do the optional content anywhere, do it here — this is the chapter that teaches you the game.
The three areas, and what each one hides
Black Wind Mountain splits into Forest of Wolves, the Bamboo Grove and Blackwind Cave, and the two detours worth taking both sit in the first of them.
- The Wandering Wight — from the Outside the Forest Shrine, take the path to the right. It drops the Cat Eye’s Beads curio.
- The Bullguard — from the Front Hills Shrine, hug the right-hand wall through the Forest of Wolves. It gives you Immobilize, and getting a freeze this early changes how the rest of the chapter plays.
- The Black Wind King — in the room straight ahead of the Cave Interior Shrine. Rewards Cloud Step.
- Black Bear Guai closes the chapter, and Elder Jinchi is the bell-quest boss above.
Cross-checked
Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Game8's Chapter 1 boss list and independent aggregated guide coverage — both agree on 11 bosses for this chapter with 7 required. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
