A cursed desert of sand and rats. Ends with the fierce Yellow Wind Sage.
Setting: Chapter 2
What to do here
- A sandy, cursed land; watch for the Tiger Vanguard and the Stone Vanguard mid-bosses.
- Collect gourds and drinks to expand healing before the finale.
- Boss: Yellow Wind Sage — a huge, fast fight; keep moving and freeze him during openings.

How much of this chapter is optional
Which leaves 11 optional. That ratio is the shape of the whole game, and it is the one thing every source agrees on: most of what you can fight, you do not have to. The game-wide totals are another matter — published counts run from 88 to over a hundred depending on whether the guide counts secret bosses, repeat fights and summons — so there is no honest number to put here. The proportion holds anyway, so two out of every three are things you have to go looking for.
Either way the optional fights outnumber the required ones by two or three to one, which is the widest gap so far, and five of them are secret bosses — the kind you only meet by going somewhere the critical path never sends you.
Seven shrines, and almost everything optional
The chapter is laid out as a chain of shrine-marked areas: Village Entrance, Valley of Despair, Windrest Hamlet, Squall Hideout, Windseal Gate, Sandgate Pass and Rockrest Flat. Seventeen bosses live across them, and the guides split on how many you actually have to beat — some publish four, others six — which means the great majority of this chapter is content you have to go and find, including several of its best fights.
Against the Yellow Wind Sage, the Wind Tamer vessel is the answer: it breaks the invisibility move and hands you a long punish window.
Cross-checked
Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Game8's Chapter 2 boss list and the walkthroughs that describe the Tiger Vanguard / Stone Vanguard gate — which agree on Cross-checked on 5 September 2026: the guides agree on seventeen bosses in this chapter but not on how many are mandatory — some publish four, others six — so this page no longer picks one. It previously contradicted itself, saying six in the callout and four in the text. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
