Best Endgame Build

By the late chapters you have the full toolkit — every stance, spell school, a roster of Spirits and Transformations, and deep skill trees. This is a high-damage, high-survivability setup for clearing the toughest fights and New Game+.

The setup

🌀 Smash stance core
Max Focus generation and charged-Heavy nodes; the fully charged Smash is your biggest single hit.
🧊 Immobilize + Cloud Step
Freeze for a guaranteed charged Heavy, or Cloud Step for a stealth crit — two ways to open safely.
🏺 Focus & survival Vessels
Slot Curios and a Spirit that boost Focus gain and sustain; keep a stagger Spirit for openings.
🐾 A reserve Transformation
Bank a strong form (Red Tides / Azure Dome) as a second health bar for final phases.

Piloting it

  • Open with Immobilize or a Cloud Step crit, then dump a fully charged Smash.
  • Perfect-dodge the big combos for free charged Heavies between your spell cooldowns.
  • Save the Transformation and a full gourd for the boss's final, fastest phase.
  • Respec toward a boss's specific weakness at the shrine — it's free, so specialise hard.

Gear priorities

Craft the highest-damage staff you can and a full armour set whose bonus matches your playstyle — Focus-on-dodge sets are ideal for this aggressive Smash build. Keep resist gear on hand for the fire and poison chapters, and upgrade the gourd's capacity so you can survive the long gauntlet fights like Yellowbrow.

A spell-focused alternative

  • Prefer control? Lean on Pluck of Many clones plus spell-power armour and Curios.
  • Cloud Step openers give guaranteed crits without needing perfect dodges.
  • Stack Vessels and Spirits that extend your damage windows.
  • It trades some raw Smash damage for safety — great for learning the hardest fights.

What changes late

  • Bosses recover faster, so windows come from your spells rather than their mistakes.
  • Damage goes up on both sides; one bad exchange is now a third of your health.
  • Set bonuses and Curios start to matter more than individual stat points.
  • Second and third phases are where fights are actually lost — build for the end of the fight.

How to build for it

  1. Commit fully to one stance

The spread that was fine in Chapter 2 is what makes late bosses feel impossible. Depth beats breadth here.

  2. Two ways to make a window

One will get resisted or be on cooldown at the worst moment. Carry a second, different answer.

  3. Build for phase three

Pick the gear and Spirit that help when your gourd is empty, not the one that makes phase one faster.

Still to verify

Still to confirm in-game: which specific armour sets and Curios form the best late-game combinations, and their material requirements.
