The explosive prologue that pulls Case into the hunt for Pantheon.
Setting: Al-Jahra, Kuwait · 23 January 1991
The route, objective by objective
1. The airstrike and the convoy
The mission opens as a flashback: Marshall is recounting the operation in a debriefing, and the game hands you control once the story reaches the ambush. Before that you watch the convoy from a distance and call in the strike that stops it. You play as William “Case” Calderon, with Troy Marshall and Jane Harrow alongside you.
2. Locate Saeed Alawi
The first objective is to reach the target on foot through what the strike left behind. Push along the road and clear the resistance as it comes. Alawi’s truck is the one stopped in the middle of the road — opening its door is what advances the mission, so if the objective marker looks like it has stalled, that door is what the game is waiting for.
3. The RC-XD — and the only challenge in this mission
Once Alawi is secured you get an RC-XD, and this is the one part of the mission that is easy to miss. The challenge RCXD-angerous asks for three kills with a single RC-XD, so drive it down the slope and hold it until three or more enemies are grouped together before you detonate. Blowing it on the first target you see is the usual way to lose the challenge. It rewards the Slip Sauce spray for multiplayer.
4. Reach Rally Point Echo
More of the same on the way out: fight through what is left and follow the route to the cliff edge. The drop down is a scripted jump, not a fall you can die to.
5. Take out the Pantheon helicopter
Harrow hands you a launcher for the finish. Look through the scope and hold the helicopter in the reticle until the targeting box locks — firing before it does wastes the rocket. It takes three hits to bring it down.
6. What happens at exfil
The extraction does not go to plan. Your driver Faraj stops answering, and at the exfil point Russell Adler appears and kills Alawi before the team can get him out. As he is taken, Adler tells Marshall to pass a message to Woods — “Bishop takes Rook”, which is where the mission gets its name. Back in the debriefing the team is suspended, and that is what sets up the Rook safehouse and the rest of the campaign.
On Veteran
Nothing about the route changes on the harder difficulties — the objectives and the order are the same. What changes is how little you can absorb in the open stretches along the road, so take the cover on the roadside rather than pushing up the middle. Do the RC-XD challenge on a lower difficulty if it is fighting you: it carries over, and there is no reason to earn a spray the hard way.
What finishing it gives you
- Unexpected Move — the trophy/achievement for completing the mission on any difficulty.
- Slip Sauce spray — only if you clear the RCXD-angerous challenge above.
