Your house is chosen during the Sorting Hat ceremony (and you can override its suggestion). It mainly changes your common room, some dialogue, and unlocks one house-exclusive quest — the main story is the same for everyone.
🦁Gryffindor
Courage · Bravery
Common room: Gryffindor Tower, off the Grand Staircase.
Exclusive quest: “The Hunt for the Missing Pages”, which tags along on the Headless Hunt with Nearly Headless Nick and crosses paths with a ghost named Richard Jackdaw.
🐍Slytherin
Ambition · Cunning
Common room: the dungeons, beneath the Black Lake.
Exclusive quest: “Scrope's Last Hope”, which opens a cavern beneath the Black Lake — home to the Hogwarts Giant Squid.
🦡Hufflepuff
Loyalty · Patience
Common room: near the kitchens in the castle basement.
Exclusive quest: “Prisoner of Love” — the only house questline that gets you inside Azkaban itself, dementors included, while you unravel Richard Jackdaw's death.
Common room: Ravenclaw Tower, high in the castle.
Exclusive quest: “Ollivander's Heirloom”, in which Gerbold Ollivander asks for help tracing a missing wand tied to Richard Jackdaw, leading you up to the school's Owlery.
🎩 Tip: the house-exclusive quests are short but tied to great rewards and lore, and you only get your own. To experience another house's quest you'd need a second save (or a friend's). If you have a Harry Potter fan-club link, you can also import your Wizarding World house.
The Sorting
The Sorting Hat ceremony happens in the Great Hall right after the tutorial quest, "The Path to Hogwarts", with Professor Matilda Weasley — the school's Deputy Headmistress — presiding over it instead of a Head of House. It plays out as a short quiz rather than a single question, and the Hat's placement can be overridden on the spot if you'd rather pick a different house yourself.
Cross-checked
Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Fextralife/Fandom and Gamer Guides — which agree on all four house-exclusive quests (including Nearly Headless Nick's Headless Hunt in the Gryffindor quest, and Anne's wrongful Azkaban sentence over Richard Jackdaw's death in the Hufflepuff one), and on Professor Matilda Weasley presiding over the Sorting in the Great Hall right after "The Path to Hogwarts". Nothing on this page needed correcting. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
