Achievements & Trophies

What's worth knowing before you chase 100% — how many there are, what's actually locked behind Alpha difficulty, and where the real grind is.

How Many, and Where

TrueAchievements and XboxAchievements both list 31 achievements on Xbox, worth 1,000 Gamerscore; PSNProfiles and other PlayStation trackers count 32 trophies on PS5 — the same 31 plus a Platinum ("Apex Predator") for collecting the rest. Steam/Epic carry the same 31 as Xbox, with no platform-wide trophy to sit on top.

The one thing worth flagging: despite the game shipping five free map updates (The Island, The Center, Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction) plus the paid Bob's Tall Tales DLC, no source checked lists a single achievement that requires a specific map or DLC. The full list we cross-checked (Steam's achievement text via GamesXtreme, corroborated by the Epic Games Store's own achievement page and by TrueAchievements' individual achievement entries) is the same generic set The Island alone can complete — boss fights, taming, exploration and leveling milestones, all earnable without ever leaving the base map. That is also why the count is smaller than ARK: Survival Evolved's, which had 32 achievements on Steam and 33 on Xbox/PS4 across its many paid DLC packs: Ascended's list is a trimmed, single-map-completable version of that older list, not a superset of it.

What's Missable

Nothing. Every achievement we found is either a permanent stat milestone (max survivor level, max dinosaur level, percentage of Explorer Notes found) or a one-time action you can always still go and do (tame a creature, ride a Rex, retrieve the artifacts, ascend). There is no story branch, no house-style exclusive choice and no point of no return that removes access to any of them on a given save.

Separate Runs & Difficulty

The three Ascension achievements are the one place difficulty matters directly:

AchievementDifficultyRequirement
Gamma AscensionGammaBeat the Island's three Guardians and the Overseer at the base difficulty.
Beta AscensionBetaSame fight, tougher versions — unlocks after a Gamma ascension raises your level cap.
Alpha AscensionAlphaRequires Alpha-tier boss trophies, which need drops from Alpha creatures on top of a full artifact set and an endgame army.

Alpha Ascension is, by a wide margin, the rarest achievement in the list — PSNProfiles puts its global unlock rate at 4.52% on PlayStation (we could not independently confirm the same percentage on Xbox or Steam, so treat that figure as PlayStation-specific). The difficulty climb it sits on top of — described consistently across the ARK wiki and independent boss guides — is real regardless of platform: each tier requires having already ascended at the one below it, which functions like a mandatory, escalating series of runs rather than a single missable playthrough.

What Takes the Longest

  • Master Zoologist (tame every domesticable creature on the ARK) is called out separately from the rest — PocketPSN's trophy database flags it as an "ultra-rare" trophy, and it's the one achievement in the list players openly ask each other about having actually finished. No source we checked publishes the exact creature count it requires, so that figure is not repeated here.
  • Maximum Survivor and Maximum Dinosaur (hitting the level cap on your character and on one tamed creature) are pure time sinks best chipped away at passively while doing everything else, rather than something to sit down and grind on their own.
  • The ten Explorer achievements (10% through 100% of the map's notes) scale smoothly, but the last one — 100% — is the one that turns a casual pass into a deliberate checklist run.
  • Getting to Alpha Ascension (see above) is the single longest achievement chain: it needs the artifacts, the army, and two prior ascensions done first.

A Reasonable Cleanup Order

  1. The early trio (tame a dino, survive a day, ride a dino) and the exploration milestones (highest peak, lowest depth, Map Maker, Cure-All) fall naturally in your first days.
  2. Chip away at Explorer Notes and dossiers while you're already traveling the map for other reasons.
  3. Beat the three Guardians and the Overseer at Gamma, then Beta, banking the level-cap increases each grants.
  4. Let Maximum Survivor, Maximum Dinosaur and Master Zoologist run in the background across your whole playthrough — none of them reward rushing.
  5. Finish with Alpha Ascension once your army, artifacts and Alpha-tier trophies are actually ready — it's the achievement every source agrees takes the longest to set up.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against TrueAchievements/XboxAchievements (31 achievements, Xbox), PSNProfiles (32 trophies with Platinum, PS5, and the 4.52% Alpha Ascension unlock rate), GamesXtreme's Steam achievement list, and the ARK Official Community Wiki's Ascension page — which agree on the 31-vs-32 platform split, on the three Ascension achievements' Gamma/Beta/Alpha structure, and on there being no map- or DLC-specific achievement in the list. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
