CHAPTER 5 WALKTHROUGH

Scars of Time

An airship of your own, a world to revisit, and Mysidia, hidden until the radar finds it

Chapter Overview

The chapter: chapter 5, Scars of Time, in Mysidia, the Uncharted Land — after a stretch of free flight over the whole world.
The route: the airship Enterprise; the radar search for Mysidia; Mysidia, the Magiapolis, and its Potion Factory; the Village of Sunioo; the Nameless Ruins; the Arcane Library; Fina's Psyche; the Tower of Mysidia; Fina's Psyche again; back to Sakura's house.
The party: Sakura joins in Mysidia.
The bosses: Slagworm (Wind), Iron Giant and Liquid Flame, Tellus twice (Wind), Byblos (Fire and Dark), and a hidden boss in Fina's Psyche (Light and Water).
Optional: Ifrit, Leviathan and Shiva as Espers; the cave masters Salome and Jotunn; a long list of side quests across the world.
What you collect: nine Visions — Clive, Vaan, Bartz and Lightning at Sanctums of Light, Camille, Wilhelm, Aileen and Victoria from side quests, and Sephiroth in battle.
Trophies: Airship Enterprise, Those Who Defy Fate and, for clearing the chapter, In Search of the Truth. No trophy in the game is missable.
Watch for: the weapon and armour shop on the airship replaces its stock each chapter. If you want one of everything, buy before you move on.

1. The Enterprise

The objectives: board the airship outside the imperial capital; enter its interior; find Mysidia.

  • 1

    An airship of your own

The Enterprise waits outside Zoldaad. Board it, then go inside it for some scenes; the airship has its own shops and an inn. Getting it earns the trophy Airship Enterprise. From here the whole world is open, and the chapter's main objective — finding Mysidia — can wait while you use it. Section 2 is what is worth doing first; section 3 picks up the story.

2. What the Airship Opens

All of this is optional. Most of it is side quests that open now, with Visions and Espers as rewards; the Vision tracker and the Esper tracker keep count.

  • 1

    Zoldaad: Ifrit, Camille and Wilhelm

    • Ifrit — a man in the capital's inn tells of an Esper's dwelling; it is the smoking volcano on the Zoldaad continent, and only the airship can fly into it. Level 33, weak to Water. Beat him and he joins as an Esper.
    • The Call from Beyond — from an NPC in the capital's Residential District. It leads to the train station by Pyroviper Cave and a fight with the Phantom Train's True Form, weak to Ice and Light. Reward: Vision: Camille and a Magicite.
    • O General! My General! — from Ozetta in the Castle Plaza. Reward: Vision: Wilhelm and a Magicite Cryst.
    • Rogue Rebel — from Simon in the Rebel Hideout: a hunt through the capital's manholes. Reward: a Rose Circlet and a Magicite.
  • 2

    Olderion: Nichol's Duty and Leviathan

Nichol starts his own quest in Olderion. It takes you to Lake Dorr, a fight out on the open land, and the Cave of Waters, and ends with Leviathan as an Esper and a stat boost for Nichol. PowerPyx, IGN and RPG Site give Leviathan for Nichol's Duty in this chapter, and the FF Resonance Wiki gives it for Nichol's Duty; Game8 swaps it with Odin and places Leviathan in chapter 6.

  • 3

Grandshelt and Dirnado: Clive, Sephiroth, Aileen

    • Clive — a Sanctum of Light near the centre of the Kingdom of Grandshelt.
    • Sephiroth — the one Vision won in battle, in Whirlpool Hollow, in the water off the Grandshelt desert. The recommended level is 45, far above where the story has you; it can wait.
    • Forger of Wills — in Dilmagia, around Aileen at the shipyard. Reward: Vision: Aileen and a Magicite.
    • Beyond the Blue — also from the Dilmagia shipyard, a quest for Lid that ends with a fight against Typhon, weak to Ice.
  • 4

The Ancient gear and the Chamber of Arms

The Ancient items you have been finding open fights in the Chamber of Arms, now in reach by air; each win gives one of the Twelve Legendary Arms, and the first earns the trophy Ancient Artifact. Chloe, met in Felicitas, gives the Ancient Bow once you have the airship, and Quarry Cave, on an island off Zoldaad's west coast, holds the Ancient Accessory. The trials are hard at this point. The Legendary Arms tracker has each one.

  • 5

    The Kingdom of Pharm

The western continent is open too, but its monsters are in their mid-40s and the story does not send you there until later. The Town of Sian, in the middle of it, has a few items worth stopping for.

3. Finding Mysidia; Sakura

The objectives: find Mysidia; go to Sakura's house; go to the potion factory.

  • 1

    The radar

Mysidia cannot be seen from the air: you find it with the Enterprise's radar pulse. Fly to the ocean just south and slightly east of the Kingdom of Pharm and use the pulse; Lid steers you closer each time until the continent appears.

  • 2

    Mysidia, the Magiapolis

The city is crossed by teleport crystals; one takes you to the Potion Factory. There are three Tablet Shards in town, and a Seraphim Bow, Knife of Silence ×3, a Knight's Sword and Healing Spring ×2 in its chests. A moogle by the entrance runs three short sub quests, Mog Tag, More Mog Tag and Even More Mog Tag: find the floating moogles around town. They pay a Mist X-Potion, a Magicite and a Magicite Cryst.

  • 3

    Sakura joins

Go into Sakura's house and she joins the party. Look in the house again later for the Thunder God's Earrings. After the scene at the Potion Factory, the Arcane Library, north-west of the factory, can be explored, though not all of it yet.

4. The Uncharted Land and Sunioo

The objective: go to the Village of Sunioo. The continent around it is worth a look first.

  • 1

    Visions, Shiva and two caves

Three Sanctums of Light on Mysidia hold Lightning (south), Bartz (north) and Vaan (west). In a snowstorm on the island to the west waits Shiva: level 35, weak to Fire; win and she joins as an Esper. Two cave masters live here too:

    • Salome — level 39, weak to Wind. She charms; Monk's Prayer Beads, sold on the airship, guard against it.
    • Jotunn — level 42, weak to Fire and Dark, on the island to the west.

The cave master tracker lists all fifteen.

  • 2

    Boss: Slagworm, and the village

On the way to Sunioo the story marker leads to Slagworm, weak to Wind. In the snowbound village are two Tablet Shards, the Arcane Coat, the Resonate Staff, Fuma Shuriken ×2, Water Scroll II ×2 and Phoenix Pinion ×2. Talk to the marked villager for the scenes. A choice then raises one of Sakura's stats: the line about giving the Sworn Six a run for their money gives +10 MP, "And you're a wise person, Sakura…" +3 Magic, and "Yep, you'll never be bored when you're traveling with us…" +3 Spirit.

5. The Nameless Ruins and the Arcane Library

The objectives: go to the Nameless Ruins and defeat the two minions there; go deeper in; then go to the Arcane Library and defeat its five monster tomes.

  • 1

    The Nameless Ruins

On the second floor two bosses wait at the quest markers, Iron Giant and Liquid Flame; both have to go before the way on opens. The chests hold Healing Spring ×3, the Magi-Blaster, a Magicite and two Tablet Shards. Three statues in the ruins give the Tyr's Armor when touched in the right order: first the one by the save point, the northmost, before you go on north; then the one near the Magi-Blaster; last the one at the start of the dungeon, by the chest.

  • 2

    Boss: Tellus

Past the save point, Tellus is waiting. Tellus is weak to Wind, but this first fight ends before you can win it. Later, the ruins' last room holds an Impact Wand.

  • 3

    The Arcane Library and Byblos

Back in Mysidia, the library is a climb on numbered floating platforms. Its five Monster Tomes are marked with main-quest icons; beat all five and a blue warp opens. In the final room, climb the ladder first for a Tablet Shard and the Book of Strength. Then the boss, Byblos.

    • Weak to: Fire and Dark.

After the fight, a book in the forbidden wing leads into Fina's Psyche.

6. Fina's Psyche and the Tower of Mysidia

Two visits inside Fina's mind, with the Tower of Mysidia between them. Fina leaves the party each time.

  • 1

    The first visit

No battles this time. Head west for the scenes, back to the gate at the start, then to the cliff in the east, and return to the real world. The open book takes you back to the library if you need it. There are three Tablet Shards and Mist Hi-Potion ×2 along the way.

  • 2

    The Tower of Mysidia

On the west side of the continent, a linear climb by stairways and landings. It holds four Tablet Shards, Smelling Salts ×3, a Magicite and the Bullseye Mace (hidden east and west of the second landing), and an Azure Pot that wants a Mist Turbo Ether. At the top, decline going back into Fina's Psyche at first: the Guarding Gown is behind a pillar in that room.

  • 3

    The second visit

This time there are fights. Go east, then north through the forest; a Malboro blocks the path. The Barrel Blazer, a Tablet Shard and the Lunar Whip are along the way. The path leads to a camp where you have to speak to each of the people gathered there; then head back to the gate and on through the Battlefield, following the path and touching the flowers along it.

  • 4

    Two bosses in a row

    • The first — whose name is best left to the game — weak to Light and Water. Drops a Ribbon.
    • Tellus — the rematch, and this time to the end. Weak to Wind. Drops a Golem Core.

Return to Sakura's house for the closing scenes, and the chapter ends.

7. Side Quests and Trophies

More that opens during the chapter, once Mysidia is found.

  • 1

    More side quests

    • Victoria Revivified — through Victoria's Shrine, west on Mysidia. Reward: Vision: Victoria and a Magicite. It starts in Mysidia according to RPG Site, PowerPyx and IGN; Game8 says Zoldaad.
    • Mechabo Unleashed — Verun's next Mechabo quest: three Mahadevas on Mysidia, then three Malbodooms. Lid learns Overclock Zero and then Mechamog Scan, which gives a boss an extra weakness for the whole fight.
    • Errand's End — from the notice board in Zoldaad. Reward: Vision: Amelia and a Magicite. RPG Site did it during this chapter and IGN lists it with chapter 5; PowerPyx and Game8 place it in chapter 6, and Game8 starts it in Mysidia.
  • 2

    The trophies of chapter 5

Airship Enterprise comes with the airship at the start. Those Who Defy Fate unlocks when the last party member joins, through the story, during this chapter. Clearing the chapter earns In Search of the Truth. All three are story trophies; the trophy tracker has the full list.

Cross-checked
