The date was announced at Santa Monica Studio's San Diego Comic-Con panel on 24 July 2026. The PlayStation Blog, the game's page on playstation.com and its FAQ all give the same day. No unlock time has been published yet.
PlayStation 5 only
The official FAQ names the PlayStation 5 and nothing else. The page lists it as PS5 Pro Enhanced. The FAQ lists only the PS5, and Sony has not announced a PC version.
You play as Faye, not Kratos
Laufey, known as Faye, is Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother. Her death sets up the 2018 God of War. In this mainline entry, Kratos is not the character you play.

Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Ariel Lawrence is the game director, and Cory Barlog, the studio's head of creative, took part in the reveal and the Comic-Con panel.
The cast
Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, the role she played in God of War Ragnarök. Jack Quaid plays Phranque, a talking cosmic cube, and Perlina Lau plays Rue, an enchanted ribbon.
On disc as well as digital
Santa Monica confirmed on 10 July 2026 that the game will be sold on disc. The press tied it to Sony's announcement that it would end production of PlayStation game discs, and one report said fans had feared Laufey would be digital-only. The pre-order page lists the Standard Edition as digital or physical.
How we got here
2 June 2026 — the reveal
Announced at a State of Play broadcast with a long gameplay reveal, and a long post on the PlayStation Blog. No date yet, only PS5.
10 July 2026 — disc confirmed
Santa Monica Studio said on social media that the game will be available on disc.
24 July 2026 — the date
At San Diego Comic-Con, the studio gave the date, 16 February 2027. According to press reports from the panel, Cory Barlog also said the next game with Kratos as the lead comes after Laufey and connects to her story.
28 and 29 September 2026 — editions and pre-orders
The PlayStation Blog detailed the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions, the pre-order bonus and the Serpent Bow. Pre-orders opened on 29 September at 10am local time.
13 October 2026 — the Collector Box
A Collector Box with a statue, a card deck and an artbook went up for pre-order from PlayStation Direct. It does not include the game.

- How long the story is. Neither Sony nor the studio has given a figure.
- The download size and the console performance modes. The page promises PS5 Pro Enhanced visuals with PSSR upscaling, but no resolution or frame-rate options have been listed.
- The unlock time on launch day, and whether there will be early access. No edition offers early access so far.
- The trophy list.
- Any post-launch content. Nothing has been announced beyond the game itself.
- A PC version. Sony has not announced one. Bloomberg reported in March 2026, citing people familiar with Sony's plans, that Sony is keeping its big single-player games on PS5. In May 2026 Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation's studios, confirmed this at an internal company meeting; Sony has made no public announcement.
