This part begins on its own as soon as Red Dead Redemption, the last mission of Chapter 6, ends. From here on you play as John Marston, now trying to live as a ranch hand with Abigail and Jack. The early missions are farm work, and for them John does not carry the weapons gathered during the story. Every mission can be replayed for its gold medal.
Sources disagree on when the old arsenal comes back. RDR2.org says every weapon obtained with Arthur is on the weapon wheel during Jim Milton Rides, Again?. IGN’s mission list says all of Arthur’s weapons and items become available after Motherhood, and its Jim Milton page says only that John fetches his guns from the cabin.
Missions are given at Pronghorn Ranch, near Strawberry, and the last two send you to Valentine and Blackwater. Gold objectives are optional and can be earned on replays.
Sources disagree on the count and the order. PowerPyx and RDR2.org list 10 missions and end with Home of the Gentry? and then Gainful Employment; RDR2.org adds that both open once Motherhood is done. IGN’s mission list has the same 10 but puts Gainful Employment first, and titles the last one “The Landowning Classes / Home of the Gentry?”. The Red Dead Wiki counts 11 missions, with The Landowning Classes as an alternative to Gainful Employment and Home of the Gentry? last, and says the part can be played in eight different sequences. This page follows RDR2.org’s order.
The Wheel
Starts: automatically after Red Dead Redemption. Some years have passed, and John drives the family wagon into Strawberry looking for honest work.
-
1
The delivery
Ask for work at the general store; the owner offers a delivery. Tell Abigail at the doctor’s office, then drive the loaded wagon to Pronghorn Ranch. Take the turns slowly: dropping any supplies on the road costs a gold objective.
-
2
The stolen wagon
At the ranch Mr. Dickens takes the cargo, and while John asks him for work, outlaws drive off with the wagon. Take the nearby horse, ride alongside and jump onto the wagon, then drive it back. Dickens gives the family work at the ranch.
- Reach Pronghorn Ranch without dropping any supplies.
- Reclaim the wagon within 1 minute.
Simple Pleasures
Given by: Tom Dickens, at Pronghorn Ranch, after The Wheel. Abe, another ranch hand, shows John the basics; on the way you stop at the cabin to greet Abigail and Jack. Milk a cow by alternating the left and right sticks in rhythm, then clear the manure from the stable with the pitchfork into the wheelbarrow, and head back to the cabin.
- When milking, fill a bucket within 10 seconds.
- Complete within 5 minutes 15 seconds.
Farming, for Beginners
Given by: Tom Dickens, at the ranch, after Simple Pleasures. It can be played before or after Fatherhood, for Beginners. First a fence: hammer the post in, then raise each rail to the right height and place it. Then Dickens needs help with an unruly bull that breaks free. Keep clear of its charges, lasso it until the rope holds, and calm it down until you can lead it.
- Fix the first section of fence in 1 minute 30 seconds.
- Avoid being hit by the bull.
Fatherhood, for Beginners
Given by: David Geddes, the ranch owner. Follow Abe to Geddes’ son Duncan, who is struggling with a horse called Jeremiah.
-
1
Jeremiah and the foal
Calm Jeremiah, pat him, then ride him hard, jumping fences, until his stamina runs out so Duncan can ride him. Feeding him a treat is a gold objective. Mrs. Geddes then calls you to the barn to help a mare give birth.
-
2
Riding with Jack
Back home, Abigail asks John to take Jack out. Ride beside him and set his pace; keep him below a full gallop so his horse does not buck him off. At the stream he challenges you to a race back to the ranch.
- Tire out Jeremiah within 45 seconds.
- Feed Jeremiah a treat.
- Teach Jack to ride without his horse bucking him off.
- Win the race back to Pronghorn Ranch.
Old Habits
Starts: automatically, after Farming, for Beginners and Fatherhood, for Beginners. Men of the Laramie gang are harassing Abe. This is a short fist fight: beat Laramie with your fists until he is on the ground. Abigail pulls John away and is not pleased.
- Defeat the Laramie without taking a hit.
- Defeat the Laramie within 25 seconds.
Jim Milton Rides, Again?
Sources disagree on the name. PowerPyx, RDR2.org and the Red Dead Wiki call it Jim Milton Rides, Again?. IGN’s mission list and the first line of its mission page write Jim Milton Riders, Again?, though the heading of that page reads Rides.
Given by: David Geddes, at the ranch, after Old Habits. That night gunfire wakes John: the Laramie gang is back and the ranch is burning. Reach Tom Dickens and beat off the men attacking him with your fists. Geddes tells John a ranch hand was killed and the cattle stolen, says he knows John can handle himself, and asks for help; John takes his guns from the cabin.
-
1
The Laramie ranch
Ride to the marker and go in on foot; the talk turns into a gunfight. Dual wield sidearms for the ten kills and use Dead Eye for the fifteen headshots, without health items. When the yard is clear, go into the barn for the gang’s leader.
- Get 10 kills while dual wielding sidearms.
- Get 15 headshots.
- Complete the mission without taking any health items.
Fatherhood, for Idiots
Given by: Abigail, at the cabin, after Old Habits. Tom Dickens sends John to the post office in Strawberry, and Jack goes with him on the wagon. At the counter John has to give the Marston name, and someone overhears. On the way back the wagon is followed; John has Jack stop by a fallen tree and goes to face the riders. Talking does not work: enter Dead Eye straight away and kill all three, then get back on the wagon and race home to the ranch.
- Kill all 3 enemies in Dead Eye.
- After the confrontation, return to Pronghorn Ranch within 1 minute 30 seconds.
Motherhood
Starts: automatically, after Fatherhood, for Idiots. A telegram arrives from Sadie Adler: she is at the saloon in Valentine with well-paid work. Abigail has left with Jack. Go to any of the three markers and a cutscene shows John at work on the ranch over a long stretch of time. Then go to the Geddes house: Geddes agrees to put in a good word so John can get a bank loan for land. The whole mission is on a 90-second clock.
- Complete within 1 minute 30 seconds.
Home of the Gentry?
Given by: Ansel Atherton, at the bank in Blackwater, after Motherhood. Atherton agrees to the loan for Beecher’s Hope, near Blackwater, but squatters are living on it. Ride there, get rid of them (paying them to leave is one of the options), and ride back to the bank to finish the deal. Outside the bank John meets Uncle, who survived the end of the gang.
- Complete within 2 minutes 30 seconds.
Gainful Employment
Given by: Sadie Adler, in the saloon in Valentine, after Motherhood. Sadie now hunts bounties. The target is Nathan Kirk, hiding in Strawberry. Ride there with her, then go straight to the Welcome Center and room 3 rather than asking around town. Kirk runs; give chase on horseback with your lasso out, catch him and hogtie him alive.
- After arriving in Strawberry, locate the bounty within 30 seconds.
- After mounting your horse, catch and hogtie the bounty within 1 minute 15 seconds.

✅ Epilogue Part 1 Checklist
Cross-checked
Cross-checked on 23 October 2026 against PowerPyx’s story walkthrough and gold medals guide, IGN’s Red Dead Redemption 2 wiki (mission list, mission pages and post-game guide), RDR2.org’s Epilogue 1 guide and the Red Dead Wiki on Fandom (mission list). Mission names and gold objectives agree across PowerPyx, IGN and RDR2.org except where marked. Mission givers and story summaries come from IGN’s and RDR2.org’s walkthroughs; we kept only what both describe. That Farming, for Beginners and Fatherhood, for Beginners can be played in either order comes from RDR2.org and the Red Dead Wiki, and that gold medals can be earned on replays from PowerPyx and RDR2.org. IGN’s post-game guide alone adds that Arthur’s stabled horses do not carry over, that Honor starts again at neutral in the epilogue, and that core stats drop back to 6 of 8 bars; we found no second source for these. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it for this guide, and what the sources do not describe is not on this page.
