Which version is which

  • Code: Veronica is the original, made for the Sega Dreamcast and released in 2000.
  • Code: Veronica X is the expanded version. It came to the PlayStation 2 in 2001 and to the GameCube in 2003; in Japan it is called BioHazard Code: Veronica Kanzenban or Complete, and it also came out on the Dreamcast there.
  • Code: Veronica X HD came out in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. One guide says it runs in widescreen and high definition; it added trophies and achievements.
  • The PS4 release of 2017 is not the HD version. It is the PS2 version of Code: Veronica X running as a PS2 Classic, with a new list of 30 trophies and a platinum. One guide says it keeps the original 4:3 picture.
  • Since 21 February 2019 the Xbox 360 HD version also runs on Xbox One through backward compatibility.

The remake

In June 2026, at Summer Game Fest, Capcom announced a remake under the title Resident Evil Veronica, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, due in 2027 with no exact date yet. It is a different game from the one this guide covers, and nothing here applies to it.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 24 October 2026 against the release data of GameFAQs and Evil Resource, IGN's Code: Veronica X HD wiki, the PlayStation Blog post of 23 September 2011, the TrueAchievements game page, the 2017 PS4 news of IGN, Siliconera and Eurogamer, the 2019 backward-compatibility news of Polygon and VG247, the trophy lists of Exophase and PSNProfiles, the PSNProfiles PS4 trophy guide, and the 2026 remake news of IGN, Eurogamer and TrueAchievements. The Japanese Dreamcast date, 3 February 2000, comes from three sources: GameFAQs, Evil Resource and the game details in IGN's 2026 remake news. The other day-exact dates in Japan and Europe for the Dreamcast, PS2 and GameCube, and the GameCube date in North America, come from GameFAQs and Evil Resource only. The 4:3 picture on PS4 comes from the PSNProfiles PS4 guide only. The remake's title comes from IGN and Eurogamer (and the GameFAQs entry); TrueAchievements calls it Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it.
