- The 2F keypad and the tarot door have one answer per level, and on Hard the oven code is always 9271. One guide adds that the Hard bookshelf code is always 8352.

- Some steps and items are skipped altogether.
Why your code may not match a guide
Silent Hill 3 changes its puzzles with the Riddle Level you picked. On Easy, clues are short and some puzzles solve themselves; on Hard, the clue is a long riddle full of literary and symbolic references. Some puzzles have one fixed answer for each level. Others build a new code every run, so a number copied from a guide will often be wrong: learn the method instead, and read the clue your own game gives you. Except where a line below says otherwise, everything on this page comes from two guides.

Working the random codes
Bookshelf (Normal)
Pick up all five Shakespeare Anthology books. Put them on the shelf in different orders and watch the digits written on their spines line up.
Briefcase (Normal and Hard)
Read the clock in room M4. The hour hand gives the first two digits and the minute hand the last two: 5:21 becomes 0521. On Hard add twelve hours, so 8:39 becomes 2039.
Oven door (Normal)
Note where numeral I sits on the door's grid, find the covered body in the same spot among the gurneys and read its number. Repeat for II, III and IV. One guide adds that the code always contains a 7.
Other things that change with the Riddle Level
- Mall bug hallway: on Normal and Hard Riddle, bugs block a hallway in the mall. Turn off the fan outside, combine the Bleach and the Detergent, use them by the bucket in the hall, then turn the fan back on to clear the fumes. On Easy you can run straight through.
- On Easy you skip some extra items, such as the Screwdriver, which on Normal and Hard opens the drawer holding the Rope in the Hilltop Center.
- Royal Flush riddle (one guide): in an Extra New Game on Hard Riddle Level, eight notes hidden on the church library shelves form a riddle whose answer is a costume code (see Unlockables). That guide's pages differ on whether any earlier clear will do or you must first have cleared an Extra New Game.
