A snowbound Buddhist land. Ends with Yellowbrow — a brutal three-part fight.
Setting: Chapter 3
What to do here
- Snowbound temples and pagodas; the chapter is dense with optional bosses and lore.
- Beware the Macaque Chief and the Non-Void monk fights.
- Boss: Yellowbrow — a three-stage gauntlet with no shrines between; bring full resources.

How much of this chapter is optional
Which leaves 18 optional. That ratio is the shape of the whole game, and it is the one thing every source agrees on: most of what you can fight, you do not have to. The game-wide totals are another matter — published counts run from 88 to over a hundred depending on whether the guide counts secret bosses, repeat fights and summons — so there is no honest number to put here. The proportion holds anyway, so two out of every three are things you have to go looking for.
The biggest chapter in the game by boss count, and the most lopsided: eighteen of the twenty-three are optional. Rushing New West means skipping about a fifth of every boss in the game.
What to collect while you are here
The New West is the chapter that opens up Soaks, and it is generous with them — enough that it is worth treating the detours as the point rather than the distraction. Five of the game’s twenty-four meditation spots are here too, one Spark each, and a Spark is a skill point you spend on spells and abilities at any Keeper’s Shrine.
Cross-checked
Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Game8's Chapter 3 boss list and GamerRant's New West boss-location guide — both put this chapter at 23 bosses with five required, not six. The page originally said six required and seventeen optional; both figures have been corrected. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
