48 talents, 36 points
Which is the whole reason this page exists.
Talents48 in total
Points36, and the level cap is 40
Left over12 talents you will never learn on a single character
TreesSpells, Dark Arts, Core, Stealth and Room of Requirement — five
A twelve-talent shortfall is not a rounding error. It means the archetypes below are
genuinely exclusive rather than a matter of ordering: you cannot arrive at the end of the game having taken
everything, so the tree you skip is a decision you make once and live with.
Spend Core points before you spend anything else
The one recommendation that holds whatever build you are running.
WhyThe Spell Knowledge talents live in Core, and they take you from one equipped spell set to four — 16 spells at maximum
EffectEvery other build gets easier, because colour-matching a shield stops meaning a trip to the menu — see the spell list
Points spent on damage are worth more once you can actually reach the spell that breaks the
shield in front of you. That is why Core first is not a cautious choice, it is the one that makes the other 36
points count.
Cross-checked
Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Deltia's Gaming and a Hogwarts Legacy Fandom/Prima Games summary.
ConfirmedBoth agree on 48 total talents across five trees (Spells, Dark Arts, Core, Stealth, Room of Requirement), a level cap of 40, and 36 talent points — one source also cites 35, but 36 is the figure that actually matches the 48-minus-12 shortfall this page runs on, so it's the one kept
What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it. A patch that adds talents would change the shortfall without changing anything else on this page.
