- Trophies
- 56 on PlayStation 4: 1 platinum, 2 gold, 5 silver, 48 bronze.
- Runs
- At least two campaign runs: Normal, then Infernal.
- Missable
- Several campaign trophies within a run; none for good, since you can play again.
- Online
- One guide: only Dynamic Duo needs a partner.
The order
1. Normal run, carefully
Play the campaign on Normal. Clearing it also gives the Casual trophy. Scan every new enemy while it is alive, scan hand prints as you go, and pick up the story trophies listed below at their spots. Try not to die: a clean run earns Surviving Deep Darkness and the Auto Loader, a part that removes reloading.
2. Infernal on New Game+
Start New Game+ on Infernal with the guns, parts and ammo you finished with. A clear earns The Vestibule of Hell and the unlimited rocket launcher. Anything missed in the first run can be picked up here.
3. Raid Mode: Chasm, Trench, Abyss
Clearing the campaign opens Raid Mode's stages. Clear every stage on Chasm to open Trench, then every Trench stage to open Abyss. Level up along the way; your level is shared by every Raid character.
4. S ranks and bonuses
Go back for an S rank on every stage of each difficulty, and collect results-screen bonuses: Low Level, No Damage, Genocide and Trinity. Four trophies count bonuses, up to 150.
5. Dynamic Duo
The one trophy that needs a second player: land a fully charged physical attack at the same moment as your partner, online.
6. The long end
Reach level 50, clear The Ghost Ship and The Ghost Ship: Chaos, beat Shadow Norman, and keep farming super rare weapons and BP for the store trophies.
Campaign trophies you can miss in a run
| Trophy | Where | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The Pool Is Open | Episodes 3-2 and 4-1 | Start the purification in the Solarium in Episode 3-2, then swim in the clean pool in Episode 4-1. |
| By the Crosshairs | Episode 4-1 | Bring Rachael down before she reaches the cafeteria. |
| Die Another Day | Episode 3-2 onward | Dodge a Scagdead's instant-death grab. The first one, on the Promenade Deck, is the earliest chance. |
| Rockets are for Losers | Episode 11-1 | Beat the Malacoda without touching the rocket launchers. This fight is the only chance. |
| Surviving Deep Darkness | Whole run | Clear Normal or higher without a single death. |
| Research Complete | Whole run | Scan every enemy type, bosses included, while each one is alive. |
| First Victim, Traces of Tragedy, Last Victim | Whole run | Scan 1, 15 and all 30 hand prints with the Genesis. |
| Triple Play | Flooded areas | Kill three enemies with one shock grenade; small water enemies in groups are the usual targets. |
| A Packaged Deal | Wherever a Scarmiglione appears | Kill one without it splitting in two. |
| Dodge Master and Angry Fist | Any time | 20 dodges, and 10 fully charged physical attacks. |
Things that save time
- One guide notes there is no chapter select, so a missed story trophy means playing on to it in another run. Know the spots before you reach them.
- Bosses count for Research Complete. One guide says that if every other enemy is scanned, the trophy pops when you scan Norman in the last fight.
- One guide says a checkpoint usually sits near a timed or hard spot. If By the Crosshairs or Triple Play goes wrong, reload and try again.
- Stack Casual and Normal by playing on Normal; Infernal also counts for both.
- In Raid Mode, one guide says you can lower your level from the character menu when you need the Low Level bonus or Gutsy, which asks you to clear a stage five levels under the recommended one.
How long it takes
- One trophy guide rates the platinum 7 out of 10 for difficulty and puts it at about 75 hours over three playthroughs. Most of that time is Raid Mode: the level 50 grind, every S rank and the bonus counts.
- The 2013 versions are lighter on the kill trophy: One for Each Minnesota Lake asked for 10,000 Raid kills there, against 1,000 on the 2017 list.
- One guide says super rare weapons drop at random, so Legends Are Made, Not Born can take a while. The Unlockables page lists which guns each guide names.
