2. Remastered and Songs of the Past
No. It launched on 29 September 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, and it is a free upgrade for anyone who owns the game on those platforms — original Switch owners get the native Switch 2 version too. CD Projekt's own list of what changes: upgraded visuals, enhanced combat with new finishers, new sign effects, improved traversal and mount handling, enhanced monster behaviours, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification (one item's stats, another's look) and an expanded photo mode. And everyone who owns the base game now has Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free — from 25 August by CD Projekt's press release, while Eurogamer.es and Vandal report the two expansions as part of the Remastered update of 29 September. Xbox owners get one more thing: the Remastered edition supports Xbox Play Anywhere at launch, so an Xbox copy also comes with the Windows PC version and synchronised saves (reported on 21 September). Saves carry over, but skill points are reset: skills now sit in a tree with three ranks each, a skill unlocks through its prerequisite skills rather than a set number of points spent, values are rebalanced and some skills are renamed. The patch notes also list a world-map marker for every unfinished questline, a time-lapse when you meditate instead of a menu, and Bard's Ballad, an accessibility mode that simplifies some mechanics and switches off some features to reduce mental load. Reforging (the transmogrification above) is done by the master craftsmen Yoana and Hattori. On Steam, the older Classic (1.32) version can still be launched. The first fixes came on 1 October: hotfix 5.00c on PC and update 5.000.020 on PS5, mostly lighting and visual fixes, plus a PC fix for saving when the Documents path has special characters. On PC, CD Projekt Red said on 30 September that NVIDIA HairWorks can badly hurt performance, and recommends turning it off until a patch fixes it. This guide was written against the 2022 next-gen build; the collectible totals do not change, but the skill and build pages describe the old tree and have not been redone yet.
A new paid expansion for 2027, first shown at gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2026. Geralt travels to Letten, "a seemingly idyllic land that hides a dark secret", with a new weapon: the chain. It is a separate purchase from the free Remastered upgrade; CD Projekt says it never considered charging existing owners for the remaster itself. Price and date are not announced.
