WALKTHROUGH · Chapter 5 OF 6

Flaming Mountains

Chapter 5 of 6

Scorched peaks and fire. Ends with Red Boy (the Yaksha King).
Setting: Chapter 5

What to do here

  • Scorched terrain and fire enemies; fire-resist gear and cooling items help.
  • Face the chapter's fiery mid-bosses; the Yin Tiger is not one of them — he is an optional Chapter 3 fight in the Zodiac Village.
  • Boss: Red Boy (the Yaksha King) — a multi-phase duel of fire; parry the flame combos and burst between.

How much of this chapter is optional

19 bosses on Game8's list (Vandal counts 18), 4 of them required

Which leaves 15 optional. That ratio is the shape of the whole game, and it is the one thing every source agrees on: most of what you can fight, you do not have to. The game-wide totals are another matter — published counts run from 88 to over a hundred depending on whether the guide counts secret bosses, repeat fights and summons — so there is no honest number to put here. The proportion holds anyway, so two out of every three are things you have to go looking for.

Nineteen bosses and four required — proportionally the most optional chapter in the game.

The story chapter

Flaming Mountains is widely read as the strongest chapter for its story and the quietest for its boss roster — worth knowing going in, because the instinct after Webbed Hollow is to brace for another gauntlet. Pace it differently: the payoff here is in what the chapter tells you.

It also holds the last four meditation spots of the twenty-four, so this is where a Spark hunt finishes.

Do not skip the secrets here

Flaming Mountains is the last of the five chapters whose secret areas gate the true ending. Clearing all of them across Chapters 1 to 5, plus the Chapter 3 treasure hunter questline, is what opens the Erlang fight back in Chapter 3, so a quiet chapter for bosses is not a quiet chapter for exploration.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 and re-checked on 26 September 2026 against the guides of Game8, Vandal, Fextralife and PowerPyx. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
