Why Vice City matters
🌴 It gave the series its second life
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, in 2002, was where the series became what people mean when they say GTA — a city with a soundtrack and a decade rather than a map with missions on it. That city was the 1980s. This one is not.
🏙️ Leonida is the state, not the city
Rockstar's modern Florida: Vice City sits on its southeast shoreline, with keys to the south, wetlands and a national park inland. Making the state the setting rather than the city is the structural change here.
⏳ Thirteen years since GTA 5
GTA 5 came out in 2013. There is a generation of players for whom it has simply always been there — and a reason the map comparison Rockstar keeps making is against its own game rather than anyone else's.
The two of them
🔥 Lucia Caminos
Raised in Liberty City, fresh out of prison, chasing something better in Leonida. She is the first major female protagonist in mainline Grand Theft Auto history, which after twenty-five years is the headline whether Rockstar wanted it to be or not.
🚬 Jason Duval
A failed soldier turned drug runner. The trailers put him in Lucia's orbit rather than the other way round, and the story is built on the pair rather than on either alone.
About the Bonnie and Clyde thing
Every preview reaches for the comparison, and it is a reasonable shorthand for a couple on a crime spree with the law closing in. It is worth being precise about what it is, though: Jason and Lucia are original characters written by Rockstar, not adaptations of the historical pair. The influence is on the dynamic — two people whose loyalty to each other is the thing being tested — not on the plot.

Still to verify
Cross-checked on 10 September 2026 against Rockstar's own announcements, PC Gamer's edition breakdown and the reporting on Rob Nelson's map comments, which agree on the 19 November 2026 date and the two launch platforms, on the $79.99 and $99.99 editions, on there being no PC version dated, and on the map being twice GTA 5's and three times Red Dead 2's. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
