Beginner's Guide

A handful of things the game doesn't spell out — knowing them early saves hours and makes you much stronger.

🔍

Cast Revelio everywhere

Revelio pings nearby collectibles, chests and Field Guide Pages on your minimap. Cast it on entering every new room or area — it's the single biggest time-saver for 100%.

🗝️

Do Merlin Trials for gear slots

Every few Merlin Trials raises your gear inventory cap. Early on your bag fills fast — knock out a cluster of trials to stop deleting loot.

🧵

Upgrade at the Loom, don't chase drops

Gear appearance is cosmetic — only Offense/Defense matter. Use the Loom to add Traits and upgrade your favourite gear with beast materials instead of constantly swapping.

🦡

Rescue beasts for gold & materials

Capture beasts with the Nab-Sack, keep them in the Vivarium, and sell their brushed materials and spare gear in Hogsmeade for easy gold.

✨

Learn Ancient Magic Throw early

Throwing objects with Ancient Magic is free burst damage that also builds your Ancient Magic meter. Level the Core talents for it as soon as you can.

🎨

Match spell colours to shields

Enemies with a coloured shield only break to that spell type — yellow to Control (Levioso), purple to Force (Accio), red to Damage (Incendio). Learn the spell types.

🌙

Change the time to farm night collectibles

Demiguise Statues can only be collected at night. Use the Wait option on the map to shift day/night on demand.

🧪

Keep Wiggenweld & combat potions stocked

Brew or buy Wiggenweld (healing), Edurus (stone skin) and Maxima potions. Set potion slots and use them liberally — ingredients regrow in your Room of Requirement.

🔥

Don't hunt for Floo Flame requirements

Floo Flames just need you to walk close enough once — there's no quest gate or level check. Wander toward every green flame icon you spot on the map and it unlocks itself for fast travel.

🎯

Plan your talents, but a respec exists if you need it

Every level from 5 to 40 grants one Talent point (36 in all) across five trees: Spells, Dark Arts, Core, Stealth and Room of Requirement. A June 2024 patch added a respec option: from the Talents section of the Field Guide you can reset Talents one at a time or all together, at 200 Gold per Talent point refunded. It still costs gold, so read a talent's full description before committing rather than relying on it. See the Talents page for the full breakdown.

🪄

Let the Room of Requirement identify your gear

The Room's altar identifies any unidentified gear you've looted for free, and every piece it reveals comes with one trait slot already filled — cheaper than rolling for traits at the Loom from scratch.

👁️

Use Disillusionment on eye-chests

Chests with a floating eye "see" you and slam shut if you're spotted. Cast Disillusionment before you're in its line of sight and you can walk right up and loot it undetected.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 23 September 2026 and re-checked on 1 October 2026 against the guides of Fextralife/Fandom, EIP Gaming, PCGamesN, ProGameGuides and Vandal, with Xbox Wire's Summer Update patch notes. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it, and what the sources do not describe is not on this page.
