- Missables
- Four: three tied to the camp in Chapters 2 to 4, and Lending a Hand to the optional Honor missions of Chapters 2 to 6.
The order
1 · Story, honorably, with the missables
Keep Arthur's Honor on the white side from the start: the Chapter 6 mission Do Not Seek Absolution only opens at Honor 4 of 8, and Lending a Hand needs every optional Honor mission. In Chapters 2 to 4, do the camp jobs while the camp still offers them: a Companion Activity in each camp (Friends With Benefits), 5 item requests (Errand Boy) and $250 in the tithing box (Give to the Poor). One trophy guide also says to go for gold medals and start the 9 challenges as you play.
2 · 100% completion
After the story, clean up Best in the West: the collectibles, the 9 challenges with their 90 tasks, the parts of the compendium the game asks for, and the gold medals you still lack. Gold Rush needs 70 Gold Medals in Story missions; two trophy guides count 104 missions that award one.
3 · Every animal
Zoologist asks you to study every animal and Skin Deep to skin every species, both in Story Mode. 100% completion only needs 50 animals in the compendium, so the rest of the list is still waiting once the percentage reads 100. The animals on Guarma, the Chapter 5 island you cannot go back to, do not count for either trophy.
4 · Red Dead Online
17 trophies need Red Dead Online. Notorious asks for Rank 50, and most of the others come on the way there. Three cost money: Posse Up (form a persistent posse), Horses for Courses (own 5 horses at once) and Home Comforts (buy 5 camp improvements). One trophy guide puts the total at $2,150 and advises saving for them rather than spending on other things.
Where the guides differ
- Time and difficulty: PowerPyx rates the platinum 6/10 and 240 to 300 hours (about 200 offline, the rest online). PSNProfiles rates it 5/10 and 200 hours.
- Gold medals on replay: PowerPyx says they are easier on the first run, because a replay gives you no tonics and only basic weapons. PSNProfiles says patch 1.15 (December 2019) made Gold Rush easier by setting your stats and gear on replay to that point in the story.
- Breaking and Entering (stashes from 4 homesteads): PSNProfiles lists it as missable and buggy, with 7 homesteads, two of which can be lost if you kill certain inhabitants. PowerPyx does not count it among the four missables, but says to rob the homesteads early because some can become unavailable.
Good to know
- Two trophy guides say missions you replay from the menu do not count for Lending a Hand, so do each optional Honor mission when it is offered in its chapter.
- Two trophy guides describe a trick for a missed Lending a Hand: after the story, replay Home Improvement for Beginners in the epilogue. Both warn it may be patched, so do not rely on it.
- Two trophy guides say to keep manual saves along the way; one recommends at least one from Chapter 1 and several from each later chapter, so a missed mission does not mean a new game.
- One trophy guide says Gold Rush expects all of a mission's medal objectives in a single run of that mission.
- Guarma's animals are lost to the compendium once you leave the island, but missing them does not block Zoologist or Skin Deep.
- One trophy guide notes that the game has no difficulty settings and that cheats disable trophies.
