Endings: the A Scenarios, the 2nd Run and the True Ending

True ending
Finish a 2nd Run (B scenario) with either character.
Minimum
Two playthroughs: one story, then the other character's 2nd Run.
Trophy
Broken Umbrella, for seeing the true ending.

How the true ending works

  1. 1 · Finish one story

Play Leon or Claire to the end. Leon's story ends after the Super Tyrant and Claire's after G's fourth form, and both close with the escape by train.

  2. 2 · Start the 2nd Run

Back on the title screen, New Game [2nd Run] is now open, starring the character you did not play. Finishing Leon's story opens Claire's 2nd Run, and the other way round.

  3. 3 · Finish the 2nd Run

The 2nd Run does not stop at the train. G returns in a fifth form inside the freight car, and beating him leads to the true ending. It makes no difference whether your 2nd Run is Leon's or Claire's.

Which order to play in

  • Either order works: Leon then Claire's 2nd Run, or Claire then Leon's 2nd Run. Both reach the true ending.
  • One trophy guide suggests playing both first stories, then both 2nd Runs, so you see everything: Leon A, Claire A, Leon B, Claire B. Each of the four scenarios has some files and Mr. Raccoon toys of its own.
  • Finishing a 2nd Run also opens The 4th Survivor, Hunk's extra mode.

What changes in a 2nd Run

  • You start in a different place, outside the police station, and the first room you enter, the Guardroom, has a new handgun: the M19 for Leon or the Quickdraw Army for Claire.
  • Some puzzles have different solutions. The trophy guides give a separate order for the chess plug puzzle in the sewers, for example.
  • The Tyrant starts hunting you much earlier in the police station.
  • The last bosses of each character stay the same, Super Tyrant for Leon and G's fourth form for Claire, before the final fight on the train.

The Ghost Survivors are not part of the story

💡
The Ghost Survivors stories are what-if tales: each lets a side character who dies in the main story survive. They have their own short endings and do not change the main story or its true ending.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 24 October 2026 against PowerPyx's true ending page, trophy guide and walkthrough, PSNProfiles' trophy guide, IGN's RE2 Remake wiki guide (its unlockables and laboratory pages), Evil Resource's enemy and weaponry pages, Game Rant's unlockables list, Siliconera's report on The Ghost Survivors and the official description of Broken Umbrella. The true ending through either 2nd Run comes from PowerPyx, PSNProfiles and IGN; which story opens which from those three and Game Rant. The fifth form on the train comes from Evil Resource and IGN. The play order of all four scenarios comes from PowerPyx alone. The Guardroom handguns come from PowerPyx, GamesRadar+ and Evil Resource; the different puzzle solutions from PowerPyx and PSNProfiles; the earlier Tyrant from Evil Resource and IGN; the last bosses by character from Evil Resource, IGN and PSNProfiles. The what-if framing of The Ghost Survivors comes from Siliconera and IGN. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it.
