1. Charles Rookwood's Trial

The second Keeper trial leans harder on spatial puzzles than the first, working portals with Wingardium Leviosa and Depulso to shift crates and pillars between rooms and reveal a path forward.

The trial ends in another Keeper memory, and the picture of what the four of them actually did starts to come together.

Rookwood's portrait only becomes available to talk to after Percival Rackham's Trial has run its course, which is what formally introduces him and sets up this second trial. The closing fight is against the same Pensieve Guardian boss you already beat in the first trial — if you cleared that one, this one holds no surprises.

2. Fire and Vice

Fire and Vice follows the Ashwinders to a vineyard and is one of the more memorable set-pieces in the middle of the campaign.

3. In the Shadow of the Mine

This is the Sebastian quest where his questline stops being a side story. It concerns his sister Anne and the lengths he is prepared to go to for her. The Unforgivable Curses arc is already running by this point rather than starting here: Crucio comes earlier, through the separate relationship quest "In the Shadow of the Study", and Imperio follows soon after in another one of its own. This quest is the emotional turn in Sebastian's story, not the one that hands you a curse.

Taking the curses you are offered is a real choice with story consequences and no mechanical penalty. Skipping them costs you nothing in power. Either way, decide deliberately rather than by clicking through the dialogue.

⚠ Tip

Sebastian's chain has a decision much later that is genuinely irreversible. If you care about how it lands, finish his quests attentively rather than rushing them between main-story beats.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against PowerPyx's and Fextralife's walkthroughs of this trial — which agree Rookwood's Trial ends in the same Pensieve Guardian fight as the first trial, worked with Wingardium Leviosa and Depulso through the portal rooms. They also corrected two things: this page previously credited the trial with unlocking "Depulso puzzle rooms", which are actually a separate reward from the Hall of Herodiana side quest and have nothing to do with Rookwood; and it previously said the In the Shadow of the Mine quest is where the game first offers the Unforgivable Curses, when Crucio is already learnable earlier through the relationship quest In the Shadow of the Study. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
