The Questions Worth Answering Before You Start

The camera question, which is the real one

👁️ What the defaults are
Grace defaults to first person and Leon to third. That is not an accident of design — the two halves of the game are built around different distances from the horror.
🔄 You can change either
Both perspectives are available for both characters, switchable in the settings menu. You can play the whole campaign in one or swap per character.
🫣 Why third person exists at all
The director has said it is mainly for players who could not handle first person in Resident Evil 7 — the stated goal was making sure people can enjoy the game rather than bounce off it.
🎯 Which to pick first
If Resident Evil 7 or Village worked for you in first person, take the defaults: the game is tuned for them. If RE7 was too much, third person for both is a legitimate way to play, not a lesser one.

Time and difficulty

⏱️ How long is it?
An average run on Standard is 11 to 14 hours. Full completion runs 25 hours or more, which is where the trophy tracker on this guide earns its keep.
🔺 Which difficulty?
Four settings, tracked on their own page here. Ink Ribbons — the classic save item — return from Standard (Classic) upward, so the difficulty choice is also a save-system choice.
🏆 Can I get everything in one run?
No. The difficulty trophies are cumulative — clearing a harder setting credits the easier ones — but the 50-trophy list still assumes more than one playthrough.

Series homework

📚 Do I need to have played the others?
No. Requiem introduces a new protagonist and gives you what you need. But it is set in Raccoon City thirty years on, and Leon has been in this series since 1998 — the more you have played, the more of it lands.
🧟 If you are going to play one first
Resident Evil 2 (the 2019 remake) is Raccoon City itself and Leon's first day on the job. It is the single most useful piece of context for this game, and it stands alone.
💿 Where can I play it?
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 — all four from launch on 27 February 2026, which is unusual for Capcom and worth knowing if the Switch 2 is your machine.

Still to verify

Cross-checked on 10 September 2026 against Capcom's own release announcement, the Resident Evil Wiki, GameSpot's and TheGamer's campaign-length pieces and TechRadar's reporting on the camera options, which agree on the 27 February 2026 date and the four platforms, on the 11-to-14-hour campaign and 25-plus for completion, and on the first-person default for Grace and third-person default for Leon. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
