Ciri's fate is set by five small moments in the final act — not one big decision. Ciri survives if her positive choices at least equal the negative ones: 3 of 5 if you take her to see Emhyr, 2 of 4 if you don't (skipping the visit removes the payment choice).
The 5 Choices That Decide Ciri's Fate
| Moment | Do this (positive) |
|---|---|
| After the failed experiment at the lab | Let Ciri vent her rage and smash Avallac'h's laboratory |
| Emhyr offers you payment (Blood on the Battlefield) | Refuse the coin — accepting it is the negative choice. Taking Ciri to see Emhyr is not one of the five: it only decides the Empress ending |
| Ciri is upset / doubts herself | Encourage her and go with her to visit Skjall's grave in Skellige |
| The snowball fight (Blood on the Battlefield) | Start the snowball fight — getting drunk instead is the negative choice |
| Facing the Lodge of Sorceresses | Let Ciri go in alone to prove herself (treat her as an equal, not a child) |
The Three Outcomes
Ciri the Witcher
At least as many positive choices as negative and you did not take her to Emhyr, or did but Nilfgaard lost the war. She survives the White Frost and takes up the Witcher's Path. The fan-favourite ending.
Ciri the Empress
3+ positive choices, you took her to see Emperor Emhyr, and Nilfgaard won the war — Radovid assassinated and Roche backed against Dijkstra at the end of "Reason of State." She lives and ascends to the Nilfgaardian throne.
Ciri Dies
3 or more negative choices. Ciri, broken and hopeless, does not return. The tragic ending — easy to trigger by accident, so mind your tone with her.
World-State & DLC Endings
- Northern Realms: who you backed (Radovid, Dijkstra, or the Nilfgaardian Empire) decides the continent's fate — killing Radovid via Roche's plan then abandoning Dijkstra hands victory to Nilfgaard.
- Romance: Triss, Yennefer, or alone — set by the choices in our Romance Guide.
- Hearts of Stone: save Olgierd (outwit O'Dimm) or let O'Dimm claim his soul.
- Blood and Wine: secure Syanna's ribbon and reconcile the sisters for the "everyone lives" ending.
How the Endings Combine
The game doesn't have one ending — it has dozens of epilogue combinations, built from independent threads that stack: Ciri's fate (Witcher, Empress or dead), who wins the war for the Northern Realms, who rules Skellige, and who Geralt ends up with. His own epilogue is separate from Ciri's: retire with Triss in Kovir, run off with Yennefer, or stay a witcher with no one. Multiply the options out and guides land on different totals depending on which threads they count as independent, so no single number is printed above.
Still to verify
Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Fextralife, and re-checked on 1 October 2026 against Vandal and EliteGuias, which add that the Empress ending also needs Nilfgaard to win the war, and on 2 October 2026 against the Witcher Wiki and pixeltwelve, which give the rule for Ciri's fate. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
