Four Materials, Two Silvers, and the One Upgrade That Does Not Carry Over

Four materials, two tracks, two silver trophies

MaterialCountWhat it buysThe trophy at the end
Power Stones54Skill upgrades. "Power Stones are upgrade materials, needed to fully upgrade all skills".Well-Rounded (silver) — all basic AND special skills.
Oni Stones55The same track: the same one-line purpose and the same trophy.Well-Rounded (silver); the halfway version is The Winding Way of the Sword (bronze), for basic OR special.
Fine Silk Cloths25Clothing enhancement — the only equipment whose prices include it — plus the Default Hozuki Pouch's second and third levels.Dressed to Kill (silver); the first enhancement of any kind is Looking Sharp (bronze). Medical Marvel, through the pouch.
Tamahagane25Sword enhancement, plus the Resistance Hozuki Pouch's second and third levels.Dressed to Kill (silver). Medical Marvel, through the pouch.

Four trackers, and why every box counts

Each of the four materials has its own tracker — 54 Power Stones, 55 Oni Stones, 25 Fine Silk Cloths and 25 Tamahagane — one box per number. They look fungible, since only the total is ever spent, but the price lists show that three of the four are spent to the last one. The Power Stone prices of the skills add up to exactly 54. The Fine Silk Cloth in the clothing prices comes to 23, and the Hozuki Pouches take one more at each of the Default pouch's second and third levels: 25. The Tamahagane in the sword prices comes to 23, plus one at each of the Resistance pouch's second and third levels: 25. The Oni Stones go the other way: the Special Skill prices total 56, one more than the 55 located, and nothing promises that a single run finds enough. The rewards are uneven too: story chapters and side content hand out 31 of the Power Stones and 30 of the Oni Stones, but only 9 Fine Silk Cloths and 8 Tamahagane, so the two equipment trackers are mostly a map of chests.

Skills: you probably have enough already

📚 109 stones, and the Oni Stones are the tight ones
Every stone price falls one way: Power Stones pay for the Basic Skills, Oni Stones for the Special Skills. One playthrough finds enough Power Stones to upgrade everything, and the Basic Skill prices add up to exactly 54, the number that exist. For Oni Stones the sources split: PowerPyx promises only that skills carry into New Game+ and the stones can be collected again, and its Special Skill prices add up to 56, one more than the 55 it locates; Vandal says the two Oni Stones in the Keep of Shanaoh Castle complete your ability unlocks. This guide records both rather than choosing.
🔁 And if it does not, skills carry over
Your skills carry over into New Game+, and you can collect the upgrade materials again for the last upgrades if you missed any. The materials respawn in a new run, so a shortfall on skills is recoverable at leisure during the Carnage playthrough that True Onimusha needs anyway.
🥉 There is a consolation bronze
The Winding Way of the Sword asks for all basic OR all special skills, and Well-Rounded asks for both. If you are short, finishing one half cleanly is still worth a trophy.

Equipment enhancement does NOT carry over — finish it before the credits

⚠️
This is the one real trap on this page, and it runs against the pattern of everything else. Sword and gauntlet enhancements are among what New Game+ does not carry, alongside Clothing, Mysteries of Kyoto, Chance Encounters and Red Souls. Skills carry; equipment enhancement does not. So Dressed to Kill — all equipment at maximum, paid for with 23 Fine Silk Cloths and 23 Tamahagane, the other two of each going to Hozuki Pouch levels — is a trophy to finish on the first playthrough, during the free-roam window before the point of no return, because the Carnage run starts that track again from nothing. Well-Rounded, by contrast, can safely be finished late.

Hozuki Pouches: find is not enhance

🧪 The pouch is the healing item
Hozuki Pouches restore health, and the nine collectibles on our tracker are its upgrades. A Sun-Dried Hozuki instantly restores your Hozuki Pouch to three health charges, which is the clearest picture of how the pouch works: charges, refilled. Note that none of the nine is a pouch the story gives you — the one Okuni hands over in chapter 1 and the Hozuki Pouch: Default from chapter 8 are separate items that are not listed, so nine is the complete count.
🗣️ Upgrading starts with Okuni, in chapter 8
"The first time you get the opportunity to reach upgrade your pouch is when you speak with Okuni during the mission 'Patching up the Pouch'". Before that, pouches can be found but not enhanced.
🥈 Medical Marvel wants all nine at maximum
Not collected — enhanced to maximum, all nine. One at maximum is the Health Is Wealth bronze. And the ninth pouch is not lying in the world: Skeleton Hozuki 5 is inside the Hidden Treasure No. 5 Chance Encounter, which does not open until after chapter 21.
✅ Pouches do carry over
Hozuki Pouches with their upgrades are among the things New Game+ keeps — so unlike equipment, work spent here survives into the Carnage run.

Charms: fifteen passives, fourteen of them from side missions

  • Charms are passive effects that stack, upgraded to level 3 at Emma's Hall in the Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, paid for with Red Souls and Favor. Charmed Life, a silver, asks for all fifteen at maximum; one at maximum is the A Real Charmer bronze.
  • Only the Charm of the Healer comes from the story, in chapter 2. The other fourteen are rewards for six Mysteries of Kyoto and eight Chance Encounters — so the Charms tracker finishes itself if the Mysteries and Chance Encounters trackers do.
  • The largest flat combat bonus on the list is the Fencer's Strength Charm at +8% regular attack power, from The Faceless; the Inner Strength Charm adds 5% to Issen power, from Something in the Water.
  • Two Charms exist to make other trophies faster: the Blazing Charm's +3 seconds of Blazing State feeds Burning Blade's fifty kills, and the Oni Strength Charm's +6% Oni Armament power feeds Wielder of Oni Armaments' hundred.
  • The Charm of Purification is the only one that touches Malice directly — it cuts the rate of health loss while affected by it by 20%.
  • Charms and their enhancements carry over into New Game+, so unlike equipment this work is not repeated on Carnage.
  • The effects here are base values, and no source we read says how they scale to level 3, so no level-3 number appears anywhere on this site.

What we could not source

No source we read gives: what any individual skill does (every skill is listed with its price and when it goes on sale, and the three pieces of equipment — clothing, sword and gauntlet — are named and priced, but nothing says what each level does); what Favor is or how it is earned, beyond being part of the Charm upgrade cost; how Charm effects scale from level 1 to level 3; or what the maximum Hozuki Pouch capacity is. Where a number is not here, it is because we could not read it ourselves.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 22 September 2026 against the guides of PowerPyx, Destructoid and Vandal, and Wikipedia; the material totals are this guide's addition of the listed prices. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it, and what the sources do not describe is not on this page.
