How the anger actually works

The Court Activities exist to anger the three vampiric vassals (Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe), and they are the primary objective in the open world. The threshold is a proportion rather than a number — doing roughly 75% of them is enough to anger the bosses enough to get their boss fight quests — and the regional rule is what makes planning matter: only activities inside a vassal's own region raise that vassal's anger, so time spent clearing another court's territory does nothing for the duel you are chasing. Angering all three is what draws Brencis out.

The three duels, and what each decision costs

👊 Ambrus — The Gilded Gauntlet, then The Bittersweet Toast
Two forks. Before the fight: meet Iulian at the hunting lodge to start The Bittersweet Toast and poison Ambrus, or simply show up for the duel and fight him clean. After it: drain him — night only — to unlock the Scarlet Shield ability and the option to invite him in, or kill him and forfeit the ability. Inviting him in is what makes him fight Brencis alongside you; refusing leaves him in Anachora. The win is The Right Fist of the Knyaz (bronze).
🌙 Bakir — The Lunar Game, then The Ring
The same structure with a different reward: draining Bakir at night unlocks Shadowstorm and the invitation; killing him forfeits it. Inviting him in means he helps during the final battle. The win is The Mad Khan (bronze). The pacing note for this stretch is to stay below 15 in-game days and to be around level 20.
🕸️ Xanthe — The Cycle of Love
The one with a real trade rather than a strict upgrade. On Game8's account, allying with her means no servants inside the castle and the trap room skipped, but a Legendary Amulet and the Blood Surge skill go with them; fighting her keeps both, and the servants. ⚠️ Vandal found no way to drink from her at Howling Keep, and takes Blood Surge from a Vial of Xanthe's Blood in the Svartrau Cathedral treasury instead. Inviting her in afterwards means she unleashes her own attacks against Brencis. The win is The Dark Mistress (bronze), and either route resolves it.
🏰 Xanthe's court holds two other things you may want
The Cathedral Ritual is the side quest A Dubious Gift, which is highly missable: it comes from the Deacon at Svartrau Cathedral once you have started A Monk and a Saint and talked to Albertus, and it is lost if you learn about the crypt underneath the cathedral first — starting Night Terrors, or going into the cathedral's treasury or library on your own — or once you reach maximum Infamy, when the cathedral locks for good. It affects nothing else. And the tower in The Silts, a Xanthe Court activity, is where the hidden Home Sweet Home ending begins.

Infamy is a separate meter, and it only goes one way

⚠️
Court Activities raise Infamy as well as anger. Infamy is the measure of crimes against Brencis and his boyars — killing his people, sabotaging his plans — and Brencis answers with Edicts that are permanent for the run: more soldiers in settlements, a bounty on Coen, tougher enemies and inflated shop prices. There is a trophy on each side of it. Throne of Thorns (bronze) wants peak Infamy in Vale Sangora; Selfish (bronze) is MISSABLE because the fishmonger stops spawning once you reach Infamy Level 9. Sell the fish early.
