The premise
The whole hook fits in two sentences: Coen is a peasant who becomes a "Dawnwalker", human during daylight and vampire at night, and the player has 30 in-game days to rescue his family from the vampire lord Brencis, who rules the fictional Vale Sangora in the mid-14th-century Carpathian Mountains. The deadline is tied to an event rather than a countdown — 30 days and nights to track the family down before Brencis officially claims his throne at the coronation. That is the premise, and everything below it on this guide is mechanics, not narrative.
Who made it
Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by veterans of The Witcher 3, published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz directed; Daniel Sadowski is credited as designer, Jakub Szamałek as narrative director and Bartłomiej Gaweł as art director.
Built in Unreal Engine 5, released 3 September 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Xbox on PC and GOG.
The writing is the most-praised element in the reviews, alongside Coen's two forms.
The three vassals, and why the story goes through them
Brencis is not reachable directly. The open world's primary objective is angering the three vampiric vassals — Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe — through Court Activities in their regions, which is what draws Brencis out. Each is a duel of its own: Ambrus from level 1, Bakir from 20, Xanthe from 25, and each carries a bronze trophy whose wording names the role rather than the person — The Right Fist of the Knyaz, The Mad Khan, The Dark Mistress. After the duel, each can be drained rather than killed, and then invited in, which brings them to your side against Brencis; refusing leaves them in Anachora, a realm the Realmwalker trophy is awarded for visiting.
The cast the quest guides name
Esme — Coen's mother, and the subject of the prologue's medicine step.
Anca — a companion whose chain starts with Page-Turner and ends at the Font of Life.
Lacra — a vrakhir companion whose chain ends at Midnight Reckoning, and one of the three romances.
Crake — a companion whose chain ends at Rise at Dawn and Fall Before Dusk, and the third romance.
Iulian, at the hunting lodge, who offers the alternative route through Ambrus's duel.
Father Florin, whose quest can open a shortcut into Greifberg Castle.
Ocha, Vicho, Mert, Catalin, Georghe, Radu and the Deacon, each named by the quest or trophy that involves them.
