Before launch
When exactly does it come out, and when do I get the Campaign early?
Friday 23 October 2026 worldwide. Campaign Early Access starts Friday 16 October for anyone who digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased the Standard Digital or Vault edition. Activision footnotes the date as subject to change and notes time-zone differences.
Does a physical copy get the Campaign early?
No. Activision limits Campaign Early Access to digital pre-orders and pre-purchases. The physical Standard Edition did get a Beta Code for Open Beta early access at the point of sale, but the betas are over.
How much of the Campaign do I get on 16 October?
The full Campaign. Activision's Nintendo Switch 2 post says it plainly — finish the Campaign before launch, then the rest of the game arrives on 23 October.
Is it on Xbox Game Pass?
Activision says it joins Game Pass in Holiday 2027, with no exact date.
Is it on PS4 or Xbox One?
No, and Activision states this twice in the announcement. Modern Warfare 4 is built for current-generation consoles and PC only.
Is there a Zombies mode?
No. Activision's own material describes three things, Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, and guides say outright that there is no Zombies mode of any kind. Activision has not said whether one could come later.
Is it Omnimovement like Black Ops 6 and 7?
No. The Omnimovement system is reportedly not used, and both hands-on previews confirm it: one says you cannot slide or dive in any lateral direction, and the other describes the movement as faster than Infinity Ward's last game but nothing as drastic. Activision's own list of new mechanics is about mantling, hanging and pipes, not omnidirectional movement.
How long is the Campaign?
16 missions. Activision has given no hour figure, and the reviews disagree: about six hours for PC Gamer, and just under six for Insider Gaming on the easiest difficulty; roughly seven for IGN; about eight for GameSpot and Polygon; GAMES.GG estimates 8–9 hours on normal and 14–16 hours for every trophy.
How much does it cost?
$69.99 for the Standard and $99.99 for the Vault Edition, per the Xbox store listing and the press. Activision's own editions page publishes no full prices — only the $30 cost of upgrading from Digital Standard to Vault. A 10% Loyalty Discount for eligible buyers of the Vault Edition ended on 23 October 2026.
Do I qualify for the Loyalty Discount?
If you own and have played any edition of Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 or Black Ops 7 — bought, or played through Game Pass or PlayStation Plus Monthly Games — on the same platform and account you are buying on. It does not apply to upgrades from the Standard edition.
How big is the download?
Activision's and Nintendo's published numbers are the PC requirement of an SSD with 115 GB free and the eShop listing for Switch 2 at about 84.9 GB. For PS5 there are only unofficial sizes per pack: about 28.7 GB for the base pack, 42.2 GB for the Campaign, 20.8 GB for Multiplayer, 5.8 GB for the first DMZ pack, 19.6 GB of shared content and 42.0 GB for Warzone. The second DMZ pack is unlisted, so they add up to no confirmed total. Xbox has only estimates that disagree, so this page gives no figure.
Does it run at 60 fps? At 4K?
PlayStation confirms 4K, 120 Hz and VRR on PS5 and PS5 Pro, with no frame-rate figure. Activision says Performance Mode needs VRR on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: without it, Campaign and DMZ stay at 60 Hz, and so does Warzone from Season 1. Its statement does not name Multiplayer. On Switch 2, Digital Legends says multiplayer reaches 60 fps docked and about 44 fps handheld, and the Campaign 30 fps. Independent measurements on Switch 2 put the Campaign at a stable 30 fps, Multiplayer at a 60 fps target that can fall into the high 40s, and DMZ at 40 fps on a 120 Hz TV, with dynamic resolution up to 900p with DLSS or 1080p with SMAA docked, and 720p handheld, with lows of 450p and 360p. On PC, the recommended spec is aimed at 90 fps in multiplayer on High settings, and a separate tier covers ray tracing at 4K upscaled.
Did my beta progress carry over?
The cosmetic rewards did — eight of them, tied to your Activision account and available when the game launches on 23 October. Player level, weapon unlocks and other in-beta progression did not.
Is DMZ the same thing as Warzone?
No. DMZ is an extraction mode inside Modern Warfare 4, set in Hajin. Warzone stays a separate free game, though it starts taking Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression from Season 1, and Hajin is itself coming to Warzone's Battle Royale then.
How many players are in a DMZ match?
Activision has not said how many players a match holds. How big a squad is, is disputed: Activision says Squad Fill matches you with two other players, and Dexerto quotes the developers on "trios with trios": three. IGN says teams of up to four.
Is there campaign co-op?
No, according to two guides that say the Campaign is single-player only. Activision has not announced it either way; its posts describe the Campaign only in single-player terms.
Who actually made it?
Development is led by Infinity Ward, with Beenox on PC and Digital Legends on Switch 2, plus nine other Activision studios in the credits including Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. The Xbox store page, read on 3 October 2026, names only Activision Publishing as publisher and gives no developer.
Are there reviews yet?
Yes. Campaign reviews have been out since 16 October, and reviews covering Multiplayer and DMZ were out by 23 October.
