How it got here
2021 and 2022 — greenlit, then in production
Konami's decision to green-light new entries in the franchise reportedly dates to 2021, as part of its return to console and PC development, with production on this game beginning in 2022. Konami has not published a development account of its own.
February 2026 — the reveal
Announced, reportedly during a PlayStation State of Play, as the next chapter of the Belmont clan and as part of the series' fortieth anniversary. Konami's announcement page carries a February 2026 date.
July to September 2026 — the hands-on run
The PlayStation Blog published a hands-on report on 17 July. The English voice cast was announced with a trailer on 24 August. Previews followed from gamescom in August, PAX West in early September and Tokyo Game Show in mid-September. The press covered a Bloody Tears trailer on 3 September and a gameplay trailer detailing the Arcana, the seven weapon types and the relics.
Around 20 September 2026 — pre-orders and the demo
Konami opened pre-orders and revealed the Midnight Edition in the same post that fixed the date at 15 October, and announced the free demo for 1 October. The demo was widely reported the same week.
The demo, in detail
Launch day, and the one date that does not match
What comes after launch
- Nothing has been announced. No expansion, season pass, roadmap, free update or content schedule appears in Konami's material or on any storefront.
- The two downloadable packs on Nintendo's store — a Bonus Contents Pack and the Digital Sound & Art Gallery — are the Midnight Edition contents rather than post-launch additions.
- No native Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced; Nintendo's store lists Switch 2 as Supported, which is backward compatibility.
- No review embargo date has been published and no review scores existed as of 22 September 2026, so nothing here reflects a finished, reviewed game.
- The open questions the previews themselves raise are about the long run: whether the weapons, Arcana and relics stay balanced and interesting across a full game, and whether it does more than assemble the series' greatest hits. No preview was long enough to answer either.
