Team X, Trask, and a Past Logan Cannot Remember

The premise

Logan believes he is finished being Wolverine, and the past disagrees: after three years away he rejoins Team X to stop Bolivar Trask, who is abducting mutants. An amnesiac Logan rejoins his former unit to investigate the abduction of mutants by the industrialist Trask and his Reavers militia, while looking for answers about his own past; the story is set three years after Wolverine left Team X. PlayStation describes the game's themes as identity, loyalty and the struggle to uncover the truth of a forgotten past. That is the setup, and it is where this page stops.

Where it takes you

🗺️ Five regions, thirty missions
PowerPyx groups the campaign as Telambang (missions 1–3), Canada (4–8), Madripoor (9–12), Japan (13–21) and Madripoor again (22–30), with a post-story trial after the credits; Vandal ends it differently, with No Coming Back (29) back in Japan and Brave New World (30), a non-playable scene, in Madripoor.
🌲 Canada
The Essex Institute and Vancouver, in what PlayStation calls the frosted Canadian wilderness. This is where the collectibles start, in mission 4 Homecoming, and where the first two Nightmare Doors are.
🏙️ Madripoor
PlayStation describes the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor. The campaign visits it twice — missions 9–12 and again from 22 to the end — and the second visit holds a third of all the Material Crates.
🏮 Japan
The longest stretch, missions 13–21, and the densest for collectibles: In the Shadows alone holds seven Material Crates and two Whisky Bottles, more than any other mission. The setting is Tokyo — the narrow streets of Tokyo, in PlayStation's words.

Behind the game

  • Announced in September 2021 and released on 15 September 2026, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
  • Originally directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian; by October 2024 Marcus Smith and Mike Daly had taken over.
  • Written by Walt Williams and Mary Kenney, with cover art by the comics artist Jock.
  • Development assets were leaked in the December 2023 Rhysida ransomware attack on Insomniac.
  • It sold 1.9 million copies in the first three days, for over $130 million in revenue.

How it landed

OutletScoreThe line it turns on
Metacritic76/100 (25 Sep 2026)Generally favourable, but more mixed than Insomniac's Spider-Man games.
Game Informer8.5/10Beautiful to look at and listen to.
Push Square8/10Fast, gory combat and outstanding visuals against a narrative it calls relatively uninteresting.
GameRant8/10Visceral combat and strong performances against repetition and a meandering story.
IGN6/10The combat wears thin well before the conclusion.
GameSpot6/10Solid combat, but the gameplay does not do much beyond the basics.

What is not on this page

No plot beyond the premise, no description of any cutscene, no ending and nothing about the hidden epilogue behind the fifteenth Nightmare Trial. Character names appear here only where the official cast list or a trophy name already carries them, and the trophy names themselves are given on the Trophy Roadmap and in the tracker rather than being explained. If you want the story, play it; this site has not.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 22 September 2026 and re-checked on 1 October 2026 against PlayStation's official page, Wikipedia (premise, setting, cast, development, sales, and the Metacritic, IGN, GameSpot and Game Informer scores), the guides of PowerPyx, Push Square and Vandal, EliteGuias' trophy list and the Push Square and GameRant reviews. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it, and what the sources do not describe is not on this page.
