The game, as shipped

📅 Two release days
The Deluxe edition unlocked on 22 September 2026 and the standard edition on 24 September. Konami's own footage blurb, from August: also on PC, and not on other consoles until at least six months after release.
🗂️ Six parts, seventeen chapters
Part 1 Arrival (Chapters 1–4), Part 2 Zoe (5–6), Part 3 The Patient (7–8), Part 4 Clara Woods (9–11), Part 5 Richard (12–13), Part 6 Simon (14–17). Town areas open for a while, then close behind you: no chapter select, no free roam, so anything left behind needs an earlier save or a new run.
👥 Three playable characters
Simon is not the only one. Zoe and Richard each get chapters of their own and play differently — Zoe with a pager and, on a first run, no melee weapon; Richard with a shotgun from the start. The shift happens early.
⏱️ How long
PC Gamer and IGN: 13 hours. GamingTrend: 10 to 12. Push Square: roughly 10. Eurogamer and PlayStation Universe: about 15. Objectives only, under 2 hours; collecting every document, under 3; the platinum, 15 to 25.
🎚️ Difficulty
Story, Normal and Nightmare, and Hinted or Normal for puzzles — Hinted highlights text in clues; it does not change a puzzle. No trophy needs anything above Story and Hinted. PC Gamer played Normal and did not fight until late; GamingTrend found enemy detection a little too sensitive.
☎️ Saving
Call 100 from any phone to save; the game also autosaves after story beats. One autosave slot and twenty manual slots.
🎭 Five endings
Justice, Forever and Abandoned on a first run, decided purely by Discoveries — Clues and Documents — against Kills; Dog and Sci-fi are New Game+ endings triggered by items.
📄 138 collectibles
85 Clues and Documents, 13 phone numbers, 15 strange postcards, 18 CRTV signals, 7 resource containers. Progress toward each trophy carries between playthroughs, though only the postcards show as already collected.
🏆 37 trophies
1 platinum, 5 gold, 9 silver, 22 bronze; 17 missable; two full playthroughs plus three partial ones with manual saves; difficulty 4/10.
💾 Size and settings
51.18 GB on PS5 and about 7 seconds to load from the menu; settings for time played, adaptive triggers, auto aim and the letterbox; no control rebinding. The default black bars can be turned off during play. No photo mode.
🔁 New Game+
Keeps no weapons or items — everything is collected again — but adds the Axe from the first chapter, the two extra endings and, after the Sci-fi ending, the Pistol-3000. GamesRadar+: a second run reframes what you did not register the first time.

What the reviews agree on

  • The setting is the star. Every review, from VGC's stunningly authentic St Monans to Eurogamer's exquisitely realised space, singles out 1996 St. Amelia and its East Neuk detail.
  • First person is the point. IGN, PlayStation Universe and TheSixthAxis say the vulnerability of not seeing behind you is what makes the game work.
  • Stealth dominates. GamesRadar+, Rock Paper Shotgun, Eurogamer and IGN all describe a game spent crouched behind cover, with fighting as the fallback.
  • The CRTV tracks one creature per frequency, so you flick between signals — PC Gamer, IGN, Rock Paper Shotgun, PlayStation Universe and GamesRadar+ all note it.
  • Enemy variety is thin: Creative Bloq counts about four kinds, Push Square fewer than a handful, and VGC and GamesRadar+ list it as a con.
  • The puzzles are grounded in period technology — floppy disks, printers, payphones, a tape recorder that moves a house through time — and mostly satisfying, with one late-game exception nearly everyone names.
  • The unkillable stalker sections are the sticking point, and reviewers split on whether they are terrifying or tedious.

Where they disagree

OnOne sideThe other
CombatCreative Bloq: the best combat the series has had in recent memory. PlayStation Universe: snappy. GamingTrend: crisp and responsive.Eurogamer: clumsy blocks and wild swings. Push Square: so simple to master that enemies become annoyances. Rock Paper Shotgun: not advisable on Normal.
The CRTVPC Gamer: the most creative, fun and useful puzzle-solving tool it has played with.Push Square: increasingly unimportant in the second half. PlayStation Universe used it for a puzzle maybe once.
The pacingGamingTrend: excellent, the length just right. TheSixthAxis wanted a third, fourth and fifth run.Eurogamer: too relentless, chapters that outstay their welcome, a fumbled closing chapter. Rock Paper Shotgun: stealth that turns robotic and plodding.
The WeightTheSixthAxis: avoiding it in tight corridors was terrifying, in a good way.VGC: the reason for its 3/5 — it seems to know where you are. GamesRadar+: it costs the perfect score. Rock Paper Shotgun: the best part of an hour in a cupboard.
The storyTheSixthAxis: the most forthcoming Silent Hill at explaining its mythology. Eurogamer: told with surprising directness.Push Square: did not fully understand it by the credits. PlayStation Universe: too brave about withholding for too long.
ScaresGamesRadar+: scared me, upset me — about as good as horror gaming gets.IGN: the CRTV makes the opening hours light on substantial scares, before it gets you later.

Not confirmed, and worth not assuming

❓ Xbox
Konami's blurb promises nothing beyond not on other consoles for at least six months (PlayStation Universe, August 2026). No Xbox date exists.
❓ A patch
Konami's patch 1.3.1, out on 30 September for the Steam version (main menu reads v1.4.153829), reduces gameplay stutter caused by shader precompilation — the cause Steam Deck HQ suspected behind the Deck stutter. Patch 1.4.0 followed on 8 October (main menu reads v1.5.154194) with the balancing Screen Burn had promised for The Weight: on Story and Normal difficulty its grab now deals heavy damage instead of killing outright, and it spends less time camping in front of your objective and tracks you less aggressively. The same patch makes other enemies less sensitive to gunfire, running and hiding, has them counterattack less in melee and stops them grappling you while you block; it adds a manual for the Remote Systems Control console, redraws the Aux Line pipe layout for clarity, fixes glass that could block the way into CEG Tower in Part 5, adds AZERTY key bindings and further reduces streaming stutter. Nothing has been announced about the crashes and frame dips GamingTrend hit on PS5 in Performance mode.
❓ The exact ending thresholds
PowerPyx says how close Forever has to be is not yet known; GameRant gives numbers — 20 more, 5 more, a 60-kill line — without saying where they come from. This guide quotes both.
❓ A demo
None was announced before launch, and none of the launch coverage mentions one.

Cross-checked

Re-checked on 9 October 2026 and cross-checked on 22 September 2026 against the guides of PowerPyx, Konami's own material as PlayStation Universe reported it, Konami's Steam notices on update plans and patches 1.3.1 and 1.4.0, Screen Burn's statement on The Weight as VGC and PlayStation Universe reported it, and the launch reviews at PC Gamer, GamesRadar+, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, VGC, IGN, Push Square, GamingTrend, PlayStation Universe, TheSixthAxis, Creative Bloq and Steam Deck HQ. Not from a playthrough: nobody here has played it, and what the sources do not describe is not on this page.
