Five Platforms, One Date — Specs, Sizes and How It Runs

Where it launches

  • PlayStation 5 — 22 October 2026 (Square Enix's PlayStation Blog post).
  • Xbox Series X|S — same day, through the Microsoft Store.
  • Nintendo Switch — same day; Nintendo's US listings give the download at 8.6 to 8.8 GB.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 — same day (Square Enix Store).
  • PC — same day, on Steam and the Microsoft Store.
  • No source we read reports a delay, a region-specific date or a platform launching later.

Two oddities in that table, left as published

The recommended tier lists the same NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and Intel Arc A580 as the minimum tier, and the minimum AMD card — a Radeon RX 6400 — is a newer part than the recommended RX 5500 XT. That is how Square Enix's Steam page still reads on 22 October 2026, and we have not corrected it or guessed at what was meant. The Steam page also discloses that the game uses Denuvo Anti-tamper, and lists Steam Achievements, Steam Trading Cards, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing.

How the demo ran, in one outlet's hands-on

PlatformWhat was observed
Nintendo SwitchTargets 30 fps and drops below it in some locations and during some animations and cut-scenes. Sub-native resolutions, shimmering in motion and cut-back post-processing, but it "holds up quite well both docked and handheld".
Nintendo Switch 2Targets 60 fps handheld, looks crisp next to the Switch version, with dithering visible in parts of the environment. "No major performance issues or slowdowns." Load times between areas are longer than PS5 or Steam but faster than Switch.
Switch version on Switch 2 (boost mode)Steadier than on Switch but still a 30 fps target — half the frame rate of the Switch 2 version, and a less stable image.
PlayStation 5Played on a PS5 Pro, running the standard PS5 version: consistent performance with almost no load times compared with the other versions, plus better texture filtering, shadows and ambient occlusion. No PS5 Pro enhancements are listed.
Steam DeckOn the High preset, almost always above 60 fps, dipping into the 50s under heavy particle effects; at maximum settings it drops into the 40s during skill animations. The suggestion is a High and Medium mix for a held 60, or capping at 40 on LCD and 45 on OLED at maximum.
ROG AllyAround 100 fps at 1080p in the 25 W mode, with a variable-refresh screen absorbing minor drops.

What launch performance tests found

The table above is one outlet playing the free chapter-one demo in September. Launch performance tests of the finished game found that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X render at about 1440p internally with a 4K interface and target 60 fps. Xbox Series S keeps the higher-end effects but drops to 720p internally, still at 60 fps, which softens the pixel art. Switch 2 reaches a similar pixel count at 60 fps with fewer particle effects, lower texture filtering and minor dips in weather-heavy scenes. The Switch version stays capped at 30 fps even on Switch 2, and its area transitions take almost twice as long. Cut-scene videos play at 30 fps, and the PC version has no frame-rate cap but no ultrawide support. On Steam Deck the High preset almost always stays above 60 fps; lowering shadows removes the small dips, and the OLED model should be capped at 60 Hz because the game cannot hold 90. Square Enix itself has published no resolution or frame-rate target for any console, so none of this is a specification.

Sizes, ratings and languages

Download sizes
Nintendo's US Switch 2 listing gives 8.8 GB for Switch and 11.9 GB for Switch 2, matching the UK listing; the US Switch listing gives 8.6 GB. An earlier 12.7 GB figure for Switch 2 was the same size counted in decimal rather than binary gigabytes. The Microsoft Store catalogue gives a download of about 13.9 GB on Xbox Series X|S and 14.6 GB on PC, with about 15 GB installed; Steam's requirements ask for 15 GB of storage. For PS5 only one source gives a figure: a German outlet citing the PlayStation data reports 11.88 GB for version 1.000.001.
Rating
The US Nintendo eShop listing carries the ESRB content descriptors Alcohol Reference, Fantasy Violence, Language and Suggestive Themes. It rates the game Everyone 10+. Nintendo's UK listing rates it PEGI 12.
Languages
Steam lists English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The US Nintendo eShop listing names Japanese, French, German, Spanish and American English — a shorter list, for a different storefront. Nothing we read reconciles the two.
Players
Steam lists Single-player. The Nintendo eShop listing says "Single system (1)". No online, co-op or competitive mode appears on either listing, and none has been announced.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 22 October 2026 against Square Enix's Steam store page, Nintendo's US eShop pages for Switch and Switch 2, and the Microsoft Store catalogue entry for the game; earlier against Nintendo's UK listing, Square Enix's PlayStation Blog post and the reporting of Gematsu, Wikipedia and RPG Site (22 September 2026), and Square Enix's Asia news portal, which names the Microsoft Store on Windows (3 October 2026). The demo table is RPG Site's demo comparison of September 2026, captured on a PS5 Pro. The launch performance figures are Digital Foundry's review (21 October 2026) and RPG Site's full-game handheld comparison (20 October 2026). The PS5 download size is play3.de's report of 11 October 2026, citing the PlayStation Game Size account; it is the only source for that figure. Square Enix has published no console resolution or frame-rate figures, so none are stated as targets here. Not from a playthrough: checked against the sources above. Still to confirm in-game.
