Editions, Prices, Early Access and What Game Pass Covers

Two dates, and they were not the same for everyone

The game launched worldwide on 6 October 2026 at 8am Pacific, 15:00 UTC. Up to five days of early access from 1 October came with the Premium Edition and with the Collector's Edition, which bundles the Premium upgrade. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass include the game from 6 October, not 1 October.

The editions

Collector's$299.99Xbox Series X disc, or Steam codeEverything in Premium plus the physical box, sold from the Xbox Game Studios shop. Pre-order shipments were said to arrive by 1 October 2026.

Inside the Collector's Edition

  • A 15-inch diorama statue of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. The shop page notes it takes three AAA batteries.
  • A 1:1 replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags in zinc alloy and brass.
  • A custom SteelBook case designed by illustrator Luke Preece.
  • A lithograph, an in-game photo and a thank-you note from The Coalition.
  • Collector's display packaging, and the base game.
  • The Premium Edition digital upgrade: up to five days early access, the weapon pack, 1,000 Iron and the five seasonal packs.
  • Conditions on the shop page: shipping to the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Chile only; one per person and account; nothing else may be added to the order; pre-orders closed 6 October 2026 at 7:59am Pacific. It read as out of stock when we checked on 22 September.

What a pre-order added

Exfil Dom, and a weapon set
Every edition's pre-order grants the Exfil Dom legendary character skin and the Exfil legendary weapon skin set. gearsofwar.com says they are available from 1 October; the Xbox store's Premium pre-order page says they unlock at launch. Both are official pages and they do not agree.
Pre-orders opened 7 June 2026
The day of the Xbox Games Showcase and the E-Day Direct. The Collector's Edition shop page set a 6 October cut-off for pre-orders.
It also bought the early beta weekend
Pre-ordering on Xbox Series X|S or Steam gave access to the first beta weekend, 6 to 10 August — the same access a Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership gave. The second weekend, 13 to 17 August, needed neither.

Game Pass: what it covers, and what it does not

The game itself, day one
Included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from 6 October 2026, with no pre-order required (xbox.com, gearsofwar.com, Xbox Wire).
Online play is a separate condition
The Xbox store listing states that online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, Versus and other multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately — the Essential, Premium and Ultimate tiers; gearsofwar.com's open beta FAQ says weekend two of the open beta needed no Game Pass. Solo campaign and split-screen are not covered by that requirement.
Xbox Play Anywhere
A purchase covers Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store. The Steam version is bought separately; the Collector's Edition is sold as either an Xbox Series X disc or a Steam code.

Limited-edition controllers

The Xbox Wireless Controller, Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition, went up for pre-order on 12 August 2026 at $89.99 or £84.99. A second version, the Limited Edition with Xbox Design Lab, has artwork by Luke Preece and custom options, and was due on 30 September; we found no price for it. The Xbox Game Studios shop also listed a custom Xbox Design Lab controller designed by Luke Preece as a prize at the Los Angeles launch event.

Cross-checked

Cross-checked on 22 September 2026 against xbox.com, the Xbox store's Premium Edition listing, gearsofwar.com, the Xbox Game Studios shop and Xbox Wire, re-checked on 1 October 2026 against Vandal and Eurogamer.es, and on 5 October 2026 against Game8's release-time page. Prices are the listed United States figures; Spain lists the same three numbers in euros. Not from a playthrough: checked against the sources above. Still to confirm in-game. Prices and contents were re-checked on 6 November 2026 against Gfinity and Pure Xbox. The controllers come from Pure Xbox and tbreak only, and the 12 August date from Pure Xbox alone.
