📅 Two launch days
Premium and Collector's edition owners have played since 1 October; everyone else, Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass included, from 6 October at 8am Pacific, 15:00 UTC. A day-one patch on 1 October fixed launch errors, a 'You're Too Early' message and Premium Edition content that was not showing up on Xbox and Steam.
🗺️ Five acts, 26 chapters
Act 1 has four chapters, Acts 2 and 5 five each, Acts 3 and 4 six each, with a Prologue before and an Epilogue after. Chapter select replays any section you have reached, and the guides put a chapter at 30 to 40 minutes with the collectibles.
⏱️ How long it is
The Coalition's own figure before launch was over 14 hours. The walkthroughs put a straight run at about 14, the first reviews 18 to 20 going for everything, and one review counted more than 20.
👥 Co-op
Two-player split-screen on Xbox only, with one copy; online, up to four, each with their own copy or Game Pass. All four Bravo Squad members are playable from the start, each player sets their own difficulty, and only the host can pause. Five save slots.
🎚️ Four difficulties
Casual, Normal, Hardcore and Insane. It starts on Normal; creative director Matt Searcy says it is meant to be played on Hardcore. The Coalition says changing some gameplay settings moves you to the tier that matches them.
🏆 1,000 Gamerscore
Thirteen achievements come with the story. Three need Insane — Today We Are Canceling the Apocalypse, For Whom The Bell Tolls and Dead Serious — one needs the whole campaign in co-op, and most of the rest are Horde Siege and Versus counters.
⚔️ Two multiplayer pillars
Versus is 4v4 with four modes and six maps at launch. Horde Siege is a twelve-player PvE mode built from three four-player squads, with four classes and three maps across districts of Kalona (The Coalition's multiplayer deep dive).
🛠️ Unreal Engine 5, rebuilt from nothing
The Coalition rebuilt characters, enemies, weapons, animation, sound and the world rather than porting anything forward, according to technical director Kate Rayner. People Can Fly joined as co-development partner in January 2025, having led Gears of War: Judgment and co-developed the first three games.

The ESRB lists Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language, with Users Interact and In-Game Purchases as interactive elements, for Windows PC and Xbox Series.
⭐ The reviews
On 1 October Metacritic stood at 87 for Xbox Series X|S and 83 for PC, and OpenCritic at an 88 average with 92% of 54 critics recommending it. The combat, the visuals and the atmosphere drew the praise; the repetition and the semi-open areas the criticism. Outlet by outlet: Release & What's Next.
