Nightreign is a stand-alone spin on Elden Ring, set in Limveld under an endless, encroaching Night ruled by the Nightlords. It reuses the Lands Between's iconography but tells a tighter, run-based story of heroes banding against the dark.

Story through play
Like the mainline games, Nightreign tells much of its tale obliquely — through item descriptions, the Nightfarers' remembrances, and the identities of the Nightlords (many are twisted echoes of Elden Ring enemies). The narrative rewards players who read as they climb rather than rushing boss to boss.

Why the ground looks familiar
Limveld is not a new continent. It is an alternate Limgrave, which is why the geography keeps almost-reminding you of somewhere. The game is doing something deliberate with that: you are walking a place you know, in a night that has changed the rules of it.

Cross-checked on 5 September 2026 against Fextralife's Nightreign wiki and reporting on the game's Nightlords and Roundtable Hold (GameRant, Deltia's Gaming) — which agree there are eight Nightlords in the base game, that Heolstor the Nightlord (the Shape of Night) is the final one, and that the Roundtable Hold is the between-expeditions hub where Nightfarers regroup, train, manage Relics and buy gear. What is still unverified is the only thing reading cannot settle — nobody here has played it.
