Wukong rewards aggression, and the skill trees are broad enough that almost anything works if you commit to it. What does not work is spreading points thinly across everything. Pick a stance, pick a way of creating damage windows, and put points into that.
Core setup
Boss tips
- Stay aggressive — bosses punish passivity more than mistimed attacks.
- Learn each boss's big wind-up; perfect-dodge it for a free charged Heavy.
- Save Immobilize for when a boss over-extends, not to open a full-health fight.
- Respec freely at Keeper's Shrines to counter a specific Yaoguai King.
Stance pointers
- Smash: bank charges and drop a huge overhead — the default for burst on a frozen boss.
- Pillar: vault onto the staff for invulnerability, then slam — great vs sweeping attacks.
- Thrust: extra reach to poke from just outside a boss's melee range.
- Switch stances mid-fight to match the phase rather than committing to one all game.
A go-to boss build
- Smash stance with maxed Focus generation for the biggest charged Heavies.
- Immobilize to open, Rock Solid or Cloud Step for defence, Pluck of Many for burst.
- A Focus-on-dodge armour set with Focus and survival Curios.
- A reserve Transformation and a stagger Spirit for phase transitions.
The three that carry the game
How to spend points
Survivability first, briefly
Enough stamina and health to stop dying to your own greed. This is a small investment, not a strategy.
Then the damage window
Whatever generates and spends Focus for your chosen stance. This is where the fight is actually won.
Then the spell you always use
Deepen the one spell you reach for every fight rather than unlocking breadth you will not press.
Respec when a boss walls you
It is cheap and reversible. Treat it as a tool, not an admission of failure.
Signs your build is spread too thin
- You have several spells and no clear plan for making a damage window.
- Fights last a long time and you rarely die — that is low damage, not safety.
- You cannot say in one sentence what your build does.
