Armour comes in sets, and the set bonus is almost always worth more than the individual pieces. That makes armour a commitment: two pieces of one set and two of another usually gives you neither bonus and no real defence either.
Set tips
- Full sets give bonuses like Focus on dodge, stagger resistance, or extra spell power.
- Craft sets from boss and region materials at the shrine.
- Mix pieces for stats, or commit to a full set for its bonus — usually the stronger option.
- Fire-resist and poison-resist pieces trivialise Chapters 5 and 4 respectively.
Which bonus to chase
- Focus-on-dodge sets fuel an aggressive Smash playstyle beautifully.
- Stagger-resistance sets let you trade through boss combos when you must.
- Spell-power sets amplify a control-and-clone build.
- Keep a resist set crafted before entering Chapters 4 and 5 to soften their hazards.
Planning your sets
- Keep one damage set (Focus-on-dodge) and one resist set crafted at all times.
- Fire-resist for Chapter 5, poison-resist for Chapter 4 — swap before you enter.
- Full-set bonuses usually beat mixing pieces once you can craft a complete set.
- Re-craft as bosses drop new materials so your defence keeps pace with the difficulty.
Sets beat pieces
- Complete one set before mixing. Partial sets are the most common wasted upgrade in the game.
- The bonus is the point — read it before deciding a set is 'worse' on raw defence.
- Keep an old completed set for fights where its bonus fits better than your current one.
- Upgrading costs materials you cannot easily farm early, so pick a set you will actually keep.
