Gourd, Drinks & Soaks

The gourd is your healing flask and the single most important item in the game. Everything else — drinks, soaks, medicines — exists to make the gourd better or to cover a status effect. Upgrading it is never a wasted investment.

Still to verify. Still to confirm in-game: where the gourd upgrades are, the ingredients for each medicine, and their healing numbers.

Consumables

  • Upgrade the gourd's capacity and potency with materials found across the chapters.
  • Brew Drinks and Soaks at the shrine to add regen, cleanse, or extra healing.
  • Medicines give combat buffs — pop one before a hard boss.
  • Refill everything at any Keeper's Shrine, which also fast-travels you.

Managing healing

  • Only drink in a genuine safe window — the animation is long and punishable.
  • Upgrade gourd capacity before charges; more sips matter most in gauntlet fights like Yellowbrow.
  • Match Soaks to the fight — cleanse for poison chapters, regen for drawn-out duels.
  • Top everything up at the shrine before every boss arena; there's no penalty for it.

Brewing better healing

  • Combine Drinks and Soaks at the shrine to add regen, cleanse or bonus-heal effects.
  • Gather ingredients while exploring — many come from Meditation-Spot areas.
  • Upgrade gourd capacity early so gauntlet fights like Yellowbrow don't run you dry.
  • Pop a combat Medicine before a hard boss for a temporary edge.

The gourd, in order of priority

  1. More charges

More attempts per fight means more learning per hour. This is the upgrade that changes how the game feels.

  2. Better medicine

Stronger healing per charge matters most in late fights where you cannot afford two sips in a row.

  3. Soaks and additives

Secondary effects on top of the heal. Useful, but not before the first two.

Everything else

  • Carry a cure for the status the current chapter throws at you — poison and burn are the usual suspects.
  • Consumables you are hoarding for a rainy day are consumables you will finish the game holding.
  • Restock at the shrine before a boss; the run back is short and the fight is not.
