BUILDS

Best Early Build

You do not need much unlocked to be strong. The first chapters hand you everything the core loop needs: light attacks, a charged Heavy, and Immobilize. What follows is how to get the most out of that small kit before the trees open up.

Still to verify. Still to confirm in-game: which abilities are available in Chapters 1-2 and the Spark cost of each.

Starter plan

  • Stance: Smash — the reliable all-rounder for charged Heavies.
  • Spell: Immobilize — freeze, then land a charged Smash for huge damage.
  • Skills: put early Sparks into Focus generation and stamina.
  • Spirit: a stagger or shockwave Spirit to create openings; upgrade your gourd whenever you can.

How to pilot it

  • Bait an attack, dodge, then answer with lights to build Focus.
  • When the boss over-extends, Immobilize and dump a fully charged Smash.
  • Keep one gourd charge in reserve — never fully empty before a boss phase change.
  • Respec toward a specific boss's weakness if you hit a wall; it's free.

When to evolve it

  • Add a second spell (Cloud Step or Rock Solid) once Immobilize feels comfortable.
  • Fold in a Transformation as soon as you earn one for tough phases.
  • Shift Sparks from raw Focus into survival and stance nodes as bosses hit harder.
  • By mid-game, transition toward the full endgame build on its own page.

Your first priorities

  1. Focus generation before raw damage

More Focus means more charged Heavies, which is more damage than a flat damage increase gives you at this stage.

  2. Enough stamina to dodge twice

Most early deaths are a second dodge you could not afford. Fix that before anything else.

  3. Immobilize, deepened

It is the spell you will use in every fight for the rest of the game. Points here never go to waste.

  4. Gourd upgrades whenever offered

More healing is more attempts per fight, which is more learning per hour.

What to ignore for now

  • Breadth of spells — one you use well beats three you forget.
  • Crafting sets you cannot complete yet; the materials come faster later.
  • Optimising stance choice. Smash is fine. Come back to this after Chapter 2.
